I had one of those uh-oh thoughts--which side of the 4x4 x-fer case does the front drive shaft come out of the ZF package? Driver side or passenger?

I used my EFI fuelpump in the Camaro for my carb.... 45 PSI out of the pump and regulated it down to 4PSI @ the carb via 3-way regulator

Whew. was worried about that driveshaft!

As for the fuel pump, I may need to stick to the fuel tank one and regulate it down, as the mechanical hangs off the side, and with the 302 swap I did in a 1984 Ranger, there may not be enough room for a mech. I hope I can run the mech, as I think the mech is still the better choice for a carb--besides, I already have the new mech pump I had gotten for it back when I started the motor project.

I was on 460Ford.com and found a thread very much in line with this project, so I have a couple different sources helping with suggestions on this, as it looks like no one anywhere has done this yet. I'm getting more and more interested in doing this swap, and may just say the heck with trying to sell the motor, and go ahead and finish it myself. The only problem becomes what do I do with the C6 auto and 9" rear that were going to go with it? I've already got a 9.75 TL in my truck, and I prefer manuals.

9" means no abs unless you find another way to utilize it

No prob. Not gonna use it. I'm gonna stick with the 9.75 rear that I transplanted out of a 2002 F150. That one has Traction-Lok, with disc brakes.

As for no ABS--my 9" came out of a 1974 Lincoln, and has this funny yolk on the front of it with an electronic plug--a mechanic told me they're kind-a rare, and that they were an early version of ABS. Neat, eh?

that is neat. i've recently been researching the 9" pretty heavily, looks like some people, particularly a ford ranger added a tone ring to the front of the rear drive line off the t-case housing and that works for their abs. i only question how to figure the signal.

There was a guy around here that had stuffed a built 460 into a 97 short box regular cab 2 wheel drive. That thing HAULED so serious ***. He wouldn't say much except it was a lot of work and definitely worth it. He sold it about a year ago and I don't know whatever happened to it.

Yeah--they called it "anti-skid," and it wasn't all that common. I don't know what kind of glitches it had or how successful it was, but mine is all there--it was easier to leave it all in place than to try to assemble it without, and it's not hurting anything by being there, if in the application it ends up in it's not connected to anything. As for what kind of signal it provided the control box, I haven't the foggiest.

Dear Lord--a 2wd short box standard cab? That HAD to have been a, well, entertaining ride, to say the least. It'd be cool to have been able to get a hold of him to do some note comparisons with.

Guys...watchin' this thread to see if it get positive...

I have a '97 reg. cab stepside...anemic 4.6...weak Mazda 5 speed...this swap would be great!! The 460 is roughly the same size as the modular v-8s. In '97 it was available in the F-250s with the proven ZF 5 speed that had the same 1356 transfer case (I think???) Besides a little fabrication, wouldn't it be possible to get some real grunt in the ole F-150? I know there are some other great swaps, but lets put a big block in the damn thing!
C'mon guys...throw us some positive idears...9.75 rear in the works...definately the 1st worthwhile upgrade for this swap...

9.75 was actually pretty easy. The original 8.8 I had in mine was an open rear with drums, the 9.75 I swapped in has discs, so I had to have the booster form the donor truck, and bought a new master cyl. for the job, but other than that, went pretty straight forward--only catch was that the bolt pattern for the wheels is the same, but the stud size is different, so I have two different sized lug nuts on the truck. Small price to pay for a swap that otherwise was about perfect.

So far, my 460 (496) is still sitting with the iron heads, waiting for a flywheel/clutch assembly from L&L ($600), and I still need a ZF 5 speed w/4x4 x-fer case, motor mounts/tranny x-member, oil pan/pickup, and the serpentine stuff from the front of the motor would be nice to install, too.

I'll keep posting the results as things go on here. Bummer the few who have gone this way already aren't posting, or have moved on since. All info/help is needed/appreciated.
