Here's the deal, my mom's Miata recently had some body and paint work done. The shop that did it is probably one of the best shops in town. The owner said to wash it with a silicone free car wash till she brings it back in 90 days to get the few pieces of dirt in the re-spray areas out.

Anything you can help me with would be appreciated.

I would just stay away from anything like a Wash N Gloss type product. Anything known to leave protection behind may interfere with the paints ability to breathe white it cures. CG Citrus Wash & Clear (not to be confused with Wash & Gloss) is one that immediately pops into my head that should be safe. My favorite wash soap is Optimum Car Wash. This should be safe as well. To give an idea of what wouldn't be, something along the lines or CG Wash & Gloss, PBs Super Slick and Wax, ONR... If it advertises shine or gloss enhancers, you're probably best to avoid it until the paint has fully cured.

 

What about regular old Megs Gold?

 

I just had a hood painted earlier this week.The painter told me to wash it with dish soap for a month until the paint is cured,but don't wash it too often.After 1 month it's ok to wash and wax it with whatever.
Humidity may be more of a factor where you are so it may take longer than a month for your paint to cure???

 

Is dish soap harsh on paint or is it better than car wash soap?

 

I thought dish soap was a bit more harsh, IIRC it removes wax better and oils obviously.

 

Dish soap is harsher on paint.There is no wax on my uncured paint so I don't have to worry about stripping wax off it.The body man suggested to use it (IF) you must wash it in the first month before the paint is cured.He suggested it because he knows it has no silicones in it and you don't want any silicones or waxes,sealers etc. on the paint before it cures.I'm sure certain car wash soaps don't have silcones or polishes in them.He didn't want to risk me using a soap that does so he suggested dish soap for an occasional wash.
Another thing I'm doing to prevent getting silicone on my uncured paint: No tire shine to be sprayed anywhere near this vehicle for 1 month.It's too hard to control overspray

 

I'm not a big fan of dish soap on my vehicle. I haven't seen anything first hand to back up that feeling. It just doesn't seem right. I'd rather use a soap designed for the task at hand.

NASSTY, I don't know what you're using for tire shine, but something like Meg's HD or Optimum's tire shine can be applied to an applicator and spread on. That's how I apply it all the time so I don't have to reclean my wheels.

 

Thanks guys. I guess I'll stick with the body shop's reccomendation of Palmolive as much as I dislike it.

 

ESF and you point me to where CG wash and Clear is, I can only find wash and gloss and then wash with super suds or something of the sort, but not wash and clear. (i'm looking on their webiste)

CGs site absolutely sucks. Half of the stuff you have to search for because it's hidden or just hard to find.
