RIZE+stock gears=blown trans

basically is what it says, had my lift on for about 10k miles and two days ago i noticed something was up with the trans so i took it to a shop (having to drive it w/o overdrive going through the gears manually) and today he calls me and said the whole thing smells burnt, gears 1 and 2 are destroyed, overdrive is just about ready to break. so basically i need a whole new trans. so just a warning to anyone else who has a rize 8in, YOU NEED TO REGEAR OR YOU WILL PAY haha i found one off of a wrecked truck for 700 but i think i might end up just paying the extra money and going with jasper. anyone else have one? if so how do you like it? o and im DEF. going to regear it too.

Driving with the lift didn't destroy your transmission, the larger tires did. I've never used or known someone who used a jasper trans, a rebuild with upgraded components always seemed to work well for me in previous vehicles.

But it wasn't the lift that caused the problem, is what he's saying. What size tires are you running?

No experience with Jasper here, either. I'd find a good local shop that knows their stuff, get a good-quality rebuild with the latest upgraded components like mentioned above. Warranty would be one reason: When I have a shop do mine, if something blows, they'll R&R as part of the warranty. If I buy a jasper, I'll be on my back in the driveway or paying a shop. (One of the reasons I'm not going with one of the rebuilders who post on here, unfortunately.)

the trans went out because it was overcycled and wore out prematurely. gearing is a must with 37's IMO

these trans give out with stock trucks all the time too. They are weak, and known for it.

Larger tires doesn't = trans death. Just might quicken the process.

my buddy has cruised around for several years with his F-150 on 38x15.50 tires, and has gone through two transmissions on the stock gearing, and heavy towing. yeah, this is a common problem.

I'd say that lugging the trans like certainly didn't help matters...

This is the reason why I had a guy who mods lightning transmissions make me up a custom valve body. Less slipping, less heat, and hard shifts. I can't stand the sloppy factory shifting coming from 5 & 6 speeds cars.

When you regear, what are you going with? I know most people go with 4.88's when running 37's and up but do you think for mostly on road driving 4.56's would be ok? A local shop guy told me that with 4.88's you can get a whining noise when you let off the throttle because they are so low. Is that true or are 4.88's the way to go.

I dont think stupidity is considered a common problem.

actually, stupidity is a very common problem. how many people on here post and repost questions when they get the true answers they don't want to hear, and then complain about the subsequent failures they were prewarned about
