The 3 comes with canned tunes the 2 doesn't. The 3 has a few more bells and whistles.
The only drawback is that SCT have NO canned tunes for the 97-04 4.2L v6s.

Bigger, nicer screen, with different software. (just specifying)

Not true, It just took a while to get canned tunes switched over to the new software and problem free.

Well it was true a few months ago when I ordered mine. I called SCT and they told me they don't have any canned tunes for the 97-03 4.2s. Maybe by now they do have them but not when I got mine and since I have custom tunes I didn't see the need to recheck to see if they had canned ones yet.

97XL, do you mind telling how much it cost to get custom ones?

Pretty sure it was around $430-$440 from Troyer.

$399 from VMP.

Well I got my tunes as part of the Stage 1 kit for the 97-98 4.2L from Troyer so I'll have to check on how the prices broke down. I believe just for the tunes its like $50/tune. I just checked Troyer's site..For the Xcal3 + 3 custom tunes its 449.00 but when you order if you give them your screenname from this site you get a discount on the cost of the tunes.

Guys, there is a forum for chips & tuners on this website.

But just for everyone's information, and so that certain "leg humpers" don't come out of the woodwork, SCT is not the only company that produces a compatible device, and Troyer & VMP are not the only custom tuners.

choices include:

If you give Power Hungry Performance a call, I'm sure that they can write a custom tune for a 4.2L V6 engine, and load it via their Gryphon device.

Your still trying to defend people that have little to no experience in working with the 4.2. I would rather take my chances with a place that has more experience than to see if some one can try to load a tune for my truck.
