If so, what are your thoughts on it. My local dealer wants $$1600 although I have seen it online for as little as $1300.

 

I didn't even know there was an 8120. I just installed a DNX 5120 a week ago and the thing is outrageous. It will do so many things, I will probably never use half of them unless I lived in my truck. I compared it with the DNX 7120 and it was about the same as far as features were concerned, so I got the 5120. The DNX 5120 has a volume **** and that is about the main difference between it and the 7120. I actually PREFER the volume **** so all was good. I know this doesn't address your question, but just some food for thought.

I'll let you know when it gets here. I have eleven 7120s on back order and three 8120s as well. One of the 8120s to be replacing my DNX8019 in my truck. I was to get my hands on 6 of my back ordered units last monday when Kenwood issued a nationwide recall on them for a issue with the navigation memory locking up. Makes my wait a little longer. All my customers have been pretty cool about it though but the clock is ticking.

 

How much are you selling the DNX8120's for? Please PM me. Don't they come with a 2 yr warranty?

Kenwood does not honor the warranty on any Kenwood purchased through Sonic. You have to go through Sonic's warranty department themselves which proves to be a nightmare for many people. Travis (KC Autosound) however is an Authorized retailer for Kenwood and you truly get a quality product with a company that stands behind it. I have both a DNX7100 and a DDX8019 w/nav purchased through him. I've never had any issues but I know if I ever did he would be there for me and take care of it promptly. Sonic's pricing has always been tempting but I just don't like gambling with my money, especially on a big ticket item like that.

 

Hey, Thanks for the heads up on Sonic. The way my lucks been running lately I probably would have to use the warranty. I still haven't heard from Travis. I was also interested in the Kenwood 6x8's with the separate tweeter and the Kenwood Excelon 4 channel amp 100w per channel and that self powered sub. Any thought's on those? I was wondering if you can update the navi say a couple of yrs down the road since it has it built in? USB port?

 

I just installed one today and am happy so far. I got it from 6th Ave Electronics. I stumbled on a coupon for $1098 and thought it was a hoax, but they honored it. I added Sirius, ipod and reverse camera. I should know more about it in a few days if anybody is interested.

I also have a few questions as I am looking at getting one of these.

How does the bluetooth work? Is there an external mic? Is there good clarity and can people hear you when your speaking?

Can you watch DVD while driving (I know this is a drawback to the D3)?

Will this work with factory sirius receiver? Or do you need to purchase the Kenwood one and run another antenna? Or can you at least use the factory attenna?

Does anyone have pics of this unit installed?

 

Bluetooth has a external mic that will plug into the back of the unit. I can only expect the clarity to be the same as the setup I have now with my DDX8019 piece. Many members on here have called me and are surprised to find out that during our conversation that I have been talking to them with the Kenwood bluetooth the entire time. The the new internal bluetooth Crutchfield describes it's features very well.

The unit is fully Dual Zone unlike the D3 units. This allows you to not only watch a DVD from the internal player but you can also do many things independent from the front such as listen to a different source through the rear speakers (ipod, USB, radio, XM, Sirius) You can even run the the two input videos though to the rear while you watch or listen to what you want up front.

As far as Sirius goes you will need to purchase the aftermarket tuner. You will be unable to use the factory tuner however you CAN use the antenna. You will need to unsnap the plastic housing around the end of the antenna and then it will allow for it to plug into the new tuner box.

ON A SIDE NOTE: The DNX7120 gives you one USB port and the EXCELON DNX8120 gives you two USB ports. Although you can use these ports with the USB ipod adapters a lot of people are unaware that you can plug in a four port USB hub like your home computer. The radio will see this and you can plug in four USB thumbdrives into the hub. On my wife's DXN7100 and my DDX8019 it will actually list all four USBs when you go into file viewing. Just some cool info for you guys.

 

Just had mine installed on Friday. It is a slick system. I installed the XM with the Navstar antenna since I listen to baseball, it has a USB cable for connecting a flash drive (might read an hdd, but not sure), have the iPod connected, but am looking to get the cable that lets me play the videos. Love the parrot bluetooth built in to this unit. This HU rocks with all the features it has.

I had an alarm installed and decided since they just got them in and I was drooling over it, why not. LOL I've been considering going the rest of the way and adding an amp and upgrading the speakers. Was looking at the Alpine PDX 5 channel, but not sure about speakers, and especially not the subwoofer. Any ideas would be great.

 

The bluetooth rocks. Very clear, can adjust to hear through L or R or both front speakers. Everyone can hear it well and I can hear them very clearly. It is an externally mounted mike.

Still have to have parking brake on, but neat trick is to just bring it on enough to trigger your light and not engage it.

I don't think it works with factory Sirius receiver, but can use antenna. I went with XM because I listen to more baseball (no NASCAR, but after the merger maybe)

are there adapters from the factory plug to the kenwood plug to ease with install?
Other than that is it as simple as taking off the clip for the siruis and pluging it in the kenwood receiver?
For the built in navi do i need to run an antenna or anything or is it just built into the unit?
