Cleaning the tube that holds the dipstick

Wow that sounds stupid but I don't have a better way of wording it.

Anyone have suggestions on how to clean the tube that the tranny dipstick sits in? I'm not sure if dirt didn't get in there and then down into the tranny.

I need to make sure that it is clean before I drop the pan and replace the filter and fluid. Don't want to recontaminate the thing.

Thanks for putting up with such a dumb question.

I'm pretty sure that the dipstick tube comes out...your best bet would probably be to take it out and clean it then. I wouldn't drive it with it off though.

On the older transmissions it was stuck in with an o-ring. After you unbolt it, pulls right out. I bet it still does, so that the tranny can be dropped.

DAMN!! I was going to check my Haynes manual for ya but it's 110 miles away at home Now, my guess is that when you pull it out, some fluid is going to come out too, so put a drain pan under there.

With the pan off and the bottom of tube exposed couldn't you just spray carb cleaner down the tube than blow it out with an air hose?
Otherwize I'd make sure to clean around tube where it enters the block or you will knock in more dirt than you get out.

A good idea too....I'll try to find a wire brush or something long enough to try that first...might be easier than removal.

I'm dropping the pan anywaysto get to the filter.
