Hard shift 2&3(yes, I read archives)
Hello All,
I'm finished reading all the hard shift posts and am curious of the fixes.
My service engine light came on on a long road trip. Took the truck(2000 f150 4x4, 5.4 103k) to the Stealership compaining of hard shifts under light throttle from 1st to 2nd and into 3rd after the trans(E4OD) warmed up. I was told that there's a hydraulic pump failure (code P1744 according to paperwork). They recommend a new trans. (imagine that) at the tune of $3750+-. $2902 for the trans. The rest is labor They say they can replace a pump that the mechanic "thinks" is the culprit, but is concidered a bandaid because of the mileage on the truck.
Now the truck is relativelly new to me, since Oct. '05. And I'm a happy camper besides this issue.
So now that I'm out of wind.
There was talk of springs being replaced. Did they work? Should I change fluid again (6 months old)? Sell the truck? Bite the bullit($17k truck after trans.)?
Thanks for any and all comments, suggestions(good, bad or indifferent)
Paul

According to the dealer info (which is gospel of course) they say 4R100(E4OD) quoted.
Door sticker ,If I'm reading it correctly, coded "E"?
But WTF do I know?
Thanks Paul

Well the local tranny guy went for a ride with me and we scoped it.
Seems the torque converter is slipping. Now he has it and must drop the pan to see what the problem is. Possibilities could be a lock up piston(?). Not quite sure right now. I'll report later.
Thanks,
Paul
