I would think when the 10-speed is ready for prime-time that Ford would be getting it installed, aside from any limiting agreement they may have with labor unions to use the 6 speed. With the hunt of better and better MPG's, there wouldn't be too many reasons to wait if the 10 speed doesn't need a change in the existing cab floor to fit between the frame rails.

I would hope a 10-speed and 3.31 gears would be sufficient in a Supercrew Lariat with the 6.5' bed. Maybe by then the 2.7 will be offered in this long wheelbase, or the 5.0 will be my default option. I like the gearing of my 6 speed 3.73 until I get to cruising speed when I think a couple more gears would be nice. Towing my enclosed sled trailer though, this thing pulls hard with the 5.0.

 

Has anyone seen any info for the total lengths of the new trucks? I am interested in an 8' bed - so am looking at an XLT, regular cab or the Lariat in the extended cab.

What's the difference in length?
