Here's a simple explanation I found on line of how the system works. True value keys must just copy the already programmed keys frequency.

"When you attempt to start the vehicle, the onboard computer sends out a RF signal that is picked up by the transponder in the key. The transponder then returns a unique RF signal to the vehicle's computer, giving it the ok for the vehicle to start and continue to run. This all happens in less than a second, and is completely transparent to the vehicle operator. It is a very effective system that does its job without the vehicle owner having to think about it, or modify his / her usual routine."

The truck does have a BOA remote start. Doesnt work right now, but plan on havinh a buddy look at it when i get time. I believe it mite have sum kind of bypass module hooked into to allow remote start to work instead of having a key stored in a box under dash. Dont think the bypass module would b preventing me from programming key but not positive.

But for now im guna go with the conclusion that the true value key is a clone n computer isnt recognizing it as a separate key.

Eventually i will bite the bullet n get dealer to program me 1 so i can do more myself

If it has a remote start system, they may very well have used one of the original, or a cut third key as a donor key. I'd be looking for a box inside the steering column covers. They may very well have cut the key portion off, and just used the chipped portion. If that is true, then you could easily have your hardward store clone the "hidden key".

Just a thought worth looking into.

I will be looking into it when I get a chance. I did see a box mounted under there that said bypass module. I know when I had my 2001 f150 and got he remote start, I had to pay an extra $50 for a bypass module box because of the chipped key. Hopefully I will get it all figured out eventually.

I opted to donate the "Valet key" for the wifes subaru remote start. The bypass module was an extra $100 including install.

I think you probably have a key under the dash in the bypass module and I believe that Ford does differentiate between the keys as it can now program the individual keys to do different things such as limit the top speed.

If there was a key 'buried' somewhere, any key that could turn the tumbler would start the truck.
