Yeah, once you get past the new frame, new 2v 4.6 engine (possibly others if they ever release the darn stats), new 6 speed transmission, bigger doors, new interior, new tow control features, new bed and new front clip it really is pretty much the same ol' 2004 truck.

Not sure how many more things they could change aside from the basic shape of the cab.

The way things are going I think the 2012 F-150 should have a 10.2 litre V12 turbo charged engine that cranks out 950hp and 1100fpt and gets 3 miles to the gallon when gas prices by that stage in the game are around $7 per gallon...
I am all for a boost in horse power in the new 09 F-150 but not at the cost of worse fuel milage then whats available now.
Lets face it, the 5.4L V8 is not exactly light on the petro so I can only hope with the new engine line up Ford has comming that fuel consumption has been better addresed.
I would like to see cylinder de-activation in city driveing much like Dodge and GMC have introduced in there trucks in the new F-150.

Anybody else share my thoughts???

If I've interpreted what I've read on the '09's correctly, they will have this technology.

I agree about the fuel economy, that's one of the many reasons I myself was battling over whether to buy an '09, or wait for a '10 with the Ecoboost, or wait for the '11 with the twin Ecoboost. Luckily the '12 article was posted and brought here by JBMX, so I can rest easy and keep saving for 3.5 more years.

As for the other poster trying to convince himself the changes are massive and impressive, I understand where you are coming from. I was using all those same arguments, plus more from my own personal history with my '04, to try and convince myself the '09 was a new truck and the way to go. I just feel bad for anyone who buys the refreshed '09 and then see's it eclipsed in just 3 short years. Then again, if I was rich I would buy one too - but that is only if I had zero monetary concerns. Luckily I have two other large ticket items to look forward to in terms of happiness, but they will both cost mucho money (house/marriage).

3.5 years extra is going to allow me much more time to save for those items, letting the economy/stock market recover while I invest as much as possible now into my 401k while those same stocks are cheap and the economy is bad. So you see, good and bad are always present, gool old ying and yang always at play.

Life is always interesting, and it's certainly a blast looking forward to each new F-150, from '97 to '04 to '12. Will sit back, enjoy my '04 and the show while we get details of the Next F-150 over the next few years!

So what else do they need to change to make it a new truck? I would consider going from '98 to '99 a refresh with a slightly different front end, tad more power, with a different gauge cluster layout and door panels being the only differences. The 2009 truck is much more than that, not a completely new ground up truck like the 2004 but much more than a simple refresh. I am not trying to convince myself that it is all that, just pointing out the obvious that the 2004 (after 4 years) is being eclipsed this year.

I can't blame you any though with what else you have going on though, there are things in life more important than a new truck. I am pretty much in the same boat where I really can't afford more than what I have right now, or be able to justify dropping the cash just to have a new truck. But I would be much more apt to get a '09 than a 04-08, just because I can't stand the front ends on the older ones, but I love the new FX4 nose.

If that comes to be, that's sad yet ok. By the time I wait 3 years, waiting 2 more won't be that hard to do. By then I'll have had 7 years of maxing my 401k and putting my marriage and home purchase behind me. 2012 would have been great cause that's when I planned to do all 3, but 2 out of 3 isn't bad, plus I'll have had my '04 for 10 years by then, and financial advisor Suze Orman (annoying but good financial advice) recommends keeping your vehicle at least 10 years before buying another one. I still see plenty of guys with '97-'03 models driving around happy. If 2014 comes to pass, I'll be following her advice whether I wanted to or not!

In a way it's funny DD said 2014, cause that's when I first predicted the next remodel to be after '09 (way back in my first posts about the '09 and my fears it might be a short-lived refresh or might be significantly refreshed enough to last until 2014 - 5 years later since I didn't believe they would release a new one in the year '13 - just seems like an unlucky number), but then I got all excited about the article JBMX posted because of the perfect timeframe (2012). Screw driving to your wedding in a limo, I love my 150 way more than any boring limo that also costs money to rent anyways. 2012 would have been perfect, guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Obviously Ford is never going to talk about what's next when the refresh isn't even out yet! Who knows, if the stock market rallies someday within the next couple years maybe I'll have some discretionary income to get one anyways. My financial future is all up to the market. Recover, stock market, recover.

For now, I'll just live vicariously through all you guys here who buy an '09+. Like I tell my friend, even if you can't afford something, doesn't mean you still can't be excited about it. Gotta love F150online.

I don't know.... I really liked this one. 1972 Ranchero GT, 351 CJ 4 speed. I had it restored to look like this when I was in high school. It originally was puke gold with an orange stripe.

Bad news and good news for any of you like me who are waiting for the 2011 F-150 for the new engines. It is looking more like the 2012MY will get the next redesign. It might be wise to wait just one more model year and get the all new model. See the comments section...

Nice. That makes the new SuperDuty make more sense now, since it was just redesigned in 2008, and it's now new for 2011. For financial reasons I'd prefer a 5 to 7 year timeframe, but for excitement reasons 3 years is pretty cool, as long as it's enough time to make actual major changes and not just a few sheetmetal & grille tweaks here n there.
