Spare tire removal?

I was fooling around with my truck tonight before I left to got to work and was wondering how do I get the spare tire from underneath the truck. I have a 05 F150 STX 4x4, only had it for 3 weeks and no owners manual yet. There is a place for a key to insert next to the tag, what is that for? Thanks for you help.

I believe if you use your key, take out the tab. In your tire changing kit you will find some rods that connect. Connect them and go into the hole where that tab came out of next to your license plate. You should feel the crank (which you have made with the rods) go into the crank mechanism. Just start turning the crank and your tire will slowly lower to the ground. Do the opposite to get it back under the truck.

Thanks for the help. The Sport Trac that I had, had the hole for the crank but you did not have to have a key to unlock it. Now I can tell my wife to stop worring about having a flat.

If you want an owners manual, you can download one in PDF format at www.motorcraftservice.com. Go to the owners manual section.

The tricky part might be getting the rods into the receiving part. They will go up and at an angle, to the drivers side. It will take you a lot longer if you do it in the dark, so grab a flash light
