I replaced the Ford version of the Duraliner with the Ford version of the Bedrug, much as you are about to do.
I have a soft tonneau cover and yes, I had to remove it to remove the plastic liner. There are clamps along the side of the bed which interfered with the removal of the plastic liner. You'll most likely want to remove your hard cover while you install the Bedrug as getting a good fit up in the front of the bed is critical to having everything fit properly.
Can't tell you anything about the extender. Don't have one. Have the 8 foot bed.
I can tell you though, you're gonna just love the bedrug!!!
Tips and tricks? Take your time. Remove the plastic liner by bowing the floor up in the middle and letting the sides come loose. then, pull it up and out.
Clean the bed. I did a wash and dry.
The bedrug is held in by velcro strips. Read the instructions several times and make sure you understand where the strips go. I'll repeat that part, read the instructions several times and make sure you understand where the strips go. Get a bottle of rubbing alcohol and clean the areas where the velcro is going to go. Let those ares dry thoroughly. Put the velcro strips on the liner as per the instructions. Zip the bottom and the sides together and carefully put it in place. Try to get it as correctly positioned as you can before pulling the plastic strips off the velcro. I'll tell you, once those stick on strips are stuck on, they are there for the duration! I was worried that they wouldn't stick. I shouldn't have been!
Most likely, you'll end up with a wrinkle or two. As long as they're small, they'll settle out in a couple of days.
Put the tie downs back on, put your bed extender back on, put your tonneau back on..... enjoy!
Oh.. so far, I still have my used, perfectly good Duraliner. Guess there's not much of a market for used Duraliners. I keep thinking I'll come up with a good use for it, but so far nothing!!! Oh well.
I think you made a good choice to replace the liner with the bedrug, but then, I'm obviously biased!
