It kinda depends on what you want out of it. I personally think Alpine makes the best HU's out there. I give 2nd place to eclipse.

I would say Eclipse and Alpine. Unless you can find a McIntosh or one of the older Nakamichi units.

Exclamation

I have a panasonic CU-C9800U. you can't find it anymore of crutchfield, your best bet is to look on ebay. It has a performance digital amp chip that gives me 60 watts RMS!

Here is the link that I bought mine from:

The best? There are numerous single DIN's with high pixel popup screens and all kinds or bells and whistles that can run $8-10K. What price range are you thinking?

If you looking for very good, Id skip the 9851. Its nice, but the next models (9853 & 9855) are much nicer and have many more features.

As for the GlideTouch on the Alpines-all you can do is try one. I hate them personally, a PITA to run in a store, let alone while driving.

I just picked up a CDA-9855 today I wasn't going to get it because I tried one at Best Buy and the strip sucked, then I tried one at Tweeter, and I liked it. Its not great but its different. I got it for $450, plus $60 for a 4 year protection plan.

Pioneer. Pipneer. Pioneer.

8600 Rocks some ***...

Im anti-Alpine... I dont think the buttons and screen are very classy looking and the menu system sucks compared to Pioneer IMHO. Otherwise Im sure they are very similar.

Has anyone added an aftermarket HU that lets them use the factory volume and track steering wheel controls?

Oh...and while I'm at it. When will automakers start offering decent stereos, or make it easier to add an aftermarket unit and keep other factory convenience features?
