Watch an EcoBoost F-150 Dust a Charger SRT8

Dodge has invested a lot of time and money remaking itself as a performance brand.  Their car lineup is brimming with tough looking, high horsepower cars, and our TV’s are brimming with endless commercials featuring celebrities who tout the brand’s performance chops.

It’s somewhat ironic, therefore, when we see footage like this. A Charger SRT8 getting outrun by an Ecoboost powered F-150?  It’s hard to believe unless you see it with your own eyes.  After all, if this is truly an SRT8, it is packing 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque—considerably more than the 365/420 in the Ford (not to mention the added weight).

What we don’t know, of course, is whether the F-150 is stock or not, or if the Charger driver has any clue what they are doing. I’m guessing the latter, because the SRT8 generally runs a quarter mile in the mid 12’s, yet on this day could only muster a 14.87 versus the Ford’s 14.20.

Perhaps it’s not an SRT8 at all, but rather a regular ol’ Charger.  Either way, the end result is a satisfying one for us Ford truck fans, and another embarrassing bit of footage for Dodge guys. Any time a crew cab, V6 powered truck can outrun a Hemi powered muscle car, we call that a good day.
