how'd they do it

my truck has a 5" super lift kit with a 3" body lift. How did some of these guys get 39"s and 40"s under their truck with the same lift? I can barely fit 38"s

First of all, who are you talking about that has the same lift with 39s and 40s? Most of the time they are the ones with 9in lifts, not 8in. You can also get some more clearance by cranking your torsion bars and using some add-a-leafs.

I saw a truck in this forums under the "subject Highest truck". Beastsie sent a pic of his friends truck (just like mine) with the same lift with 40"s!! My lift is a 5" and I did crank to bars to get a true 6". WOW! I would love to dump the 38's for some 40"s! Being I don't drive it all the time!

It looks like it is a FX4 in the pic. And, correct me if i'm wrong, I think the FX4s are originally higher than the other 4x4s to start. That is the only thing that I think it could be. Now, i have a question about the super lifts. The lifts they sell are 4-5in lifts. Now, does that mean that it ranges by how much you crank your torsion bars? So, that would mean they drop the front differential a full 4in and then crank the torsion bars to gain the 5? Or, what?

JasonXX Dec 8, 2002 11:00 PM

The superlift is a 4" and the t.bars were raised up to get the 5. So as of now I have 8" ( with 3" body lift). But I have heard of guys cranking the t.bars to get a 3" lift with blocks on the rear. So if I did that I should get about 10"s(with my 3" body lift). Right? 4" sup. with T.bars up 3" and 3" body lift.

Anyone who tells you they got 3" of lift by just cranking the torsion bars is BSing you. You will get about 1.5" max. I only got 1" actually but there are a few more turns I could go.

What will be contacting on your ride if you went with 39s or 40s? Is it something that just a wider rim or different offset could fix or will it hit the fenders?

Plus, it is unsafe to crank your torsion bars all the way. Your better off leaving it at at the 5in.

JasonXX Dec 9, 2002 07:56 PM

the 37" SSR's I had were about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 from hitting the front bumber and the back of the front fender. The 37"s are really like 36 inches tall. Then I added 38"s and the gap got a little close. I'm just wondering if the shop who installed my lift didn't crank the t.bars to give me 5". Also I noticed that they only installed a 3" block on the rear. Does that sound right? If I knew how to post a pic with a message I'd be able to show you what I'm talking about.

If this worked, you'll see a pic!https://www.f150online.com/galleries...=435

maybe not?

Are those the 38s in that pic? Looks about right. Most of the time they just install 38s with a 6in susp. and a 3in body. Some guys just put on 36s with a 8in lift. If they only put on 3in blocks then they probably put on different springs that gave you the rest of the lift.

JasonXX Dec 9, 2002 08:47 PM

The pic is with the 37"S. The only thing they did to the rear is add 3" blocks. No extra leafs. I think they might have just left it at a 4" lift and 3" body lift? Becasue there is no way I can get 39 or 40 under this truck? Which leads back to my question " How'd they do it with the same set up?" I'm confused!

OMG, I am jealous! THat truck is beautiful! Looks so high up being that it is a regular cab short bed too.

Well you can get the front a bit higher with the torsion bar lift. I got my truck to equal out in ride height. Well actually I think the front sits a tad taller than the rear but I already had it aligned so I am not going to back down on the bars.

That alone should give you a bit more of clearance but I don't think it will fit 39s judging by that picture. So I have no clue how they are getting those tires on.

JasonXX Dec 10, 2002 10:33 PM

Thanks Kev. I noticed that most of them have been using 1-ton Chevy t. bars. I don't know what they do different than regular t-bars, but I'm about to give up on it. I have 16 X 10 rims so I might upgrade to a 16 X 12. I know I just need beefer tires under there (WIDER). The only real difference in the 37 & 38 are about 1" or less and the specs show that the 38 X 13.50 are thinner than the 37 X 12.50. Any suggestions?

That guys truck I posted a pic of does not have an FX4, he put those decals on there. I think his truck is a 99 or something and they didnt offer that package when he got it.
