Exclamation New Brakes... Aftermarket?

I currently have a F-150 Worktruck and I was wondering If I could upgrade my brakes to the lightning brakes or the F-250 brakes. I have heard this can be done. I think this would improve my braking distance as well as my pad life.

I have it on good authority that on '99 and newer F-150s, you can swap stock single piston calipers for the beefier and better dual piston calipers. These calipers come as stock on the Superduty and Lightning trucks.

Now, if you have an older truck than '99, then I do not know if those calipers will fit. I have a '98 myself, and am trying to find out if that brake upgrade will work on my truck.

Hopefully that is of some help.

Thanks.

When you figure it out I would defiantly like to know.
I have a 98 F-150 as well.

Thanks for the info.

I am going to try to talk to a Ford tech down at the shop and see if they have tried this before.

We have another possible solution. I have and I assume you also have rear drum brakes. I am told that the newer rear disk setup may (MAY) just fit on our trucks. I am also considering this route, but again I don't have the confirmed answer as to whether they will fit our '98s. Ask your poeple about this, if you get the chance.

I will look into this matter eventually myself, but I just haven't the time at present. Also I will need to service my brakes before winter, so I have do something. With 45k on the OEMs I am not unhappy with system, but clearly what I have is insufficient for towing anything in my opinion.

I post back when I learn anything.

been busy.

I have been pretty busy as well. I will try and figure this out this weekend. I know one of the guys that works for Ford semi-personally so he should be able to give me an answer. He does really good work. I have almost 40k miles on my truck and I am pretty happy with the brakes, however you can never be too happy with anything OEM.

I will keep you posted. I will also try and check into the rear disk setup option...

It would be sweet if the dual piston calipers from the L would fit our 98 trucks. I have finally got a line on new rotors. I just heard from Powerslot, new rotors for my truck are 82.50 plus shipping. I think I will be ordering them shortly. It would be great to match them with the L calipers if they fit.

2 piston calipers

Did anyone find out if the 2 piston calipers will fit on the 98 150s? I am about ready to put new rotors and would like to put better calipers on the font.

mjhpadi,
Where did you find them for that price? Tirerack wants 165 each for them.

Got that price from Powerslot but then I received an e-mail telling me that they won't sell to me - only to dealers. I haven't found a dealer that carries the Powerslot that fit the 97-98 4WD so I'm about to give up on the darn Powerslots and try another company.

I don't know why but my 97 F150 4x4 has a dual piston caliper. I never thought that much about it. Does the 4x4 or the towing package get bigger brakes. The only problem with the F250 caliper might be the mounting pattern of the caliper bracket.

Any updates on this topic? I have a 98 XLT 4X4 that has dual piston calipers up front. I also was interested in any possible upgrades. This hippo can't stop fast enough.
