Exclamation attn. f250 ld & 7700 owners

I ran across a "Safety Alert" in reference to rim failure on the 7 spoke wheels with the perminent chrome cover we have. The incident exampled showed a wheel with approx. 75000 miles that had the rim seperate from the mounting disc. Also, the same vehicle had cracks on all three of the remaining wheels with cracks on as many as 6 of the spokes. the truck involved was a "2000/2001" model. The cracks appear where the rim attatches to the spoke but are covered by the chrome cover so owners have to remove the wheel for inspection.

Question

"Rim attaches to the spoke"

Are you talking more in the center of the wheel? I will ceck mine soon. Where did you see this bulletin? Did it offer any advice on what to do if there are cracks?

The failed rim pictured in the "alert" showed a rim(the part the tire mounts on), a damaged disc( the part behind the chrome cover) and the chrome cover. The rim seperated from the disc at the joint between the disc and the rim. This fax appears to have been intended for the maintain dept. for and energy company in Michigan. (not sure why it got to me). No indication of what to do if you a cracked wheel is found, other than remove it from the truck.
I have just over 40K on mine so I will start checking mine at each rotation.

just the steel wheels--and only the 7 lug wheels on the F250 L.D. and F150/7700. no one i've talked to locally has heard of this problem so hopefully this is an isolated incident. i would like to know what loads and conditions (abuse) the failed wheel was exposed to.
