2001 Super crew 4x4 tires? 17 inch.
Hi guys, I have a 2001 Super crew 4x4 off road, and am not very happy with the off road performance if the stock Good year wrangler RT/s tires. I want to keep my stock 17 inch rims, and want to get some mud terrain tires. I have found that getting mud/ all terrain tires in the 17 ich size is very hard. I dont want to spend a bunch of money... I have founf the Dunlop Radial Mud Rover for $125 each in a 265/70/17 size, can any of yall reccomend a good mud or all terrain tires that is less than $150 each for AT LEAST a 265/70/17? I may want to go to a larger size like 275/70/17 ot 285/70/17 let me know what yall think.
Also has any had any luck with the dunlops I am talking about?
Thanks,
Wesley

too much $$
According to procomp.com those tires are over $200 each. But I do appreciate the suggestion.
I know your all thinking why take a $30k truck and put cheap tires on it??? well, I`m 18 and my parents bought the truck, but anything I want to do to it aftermarket I have to pay for.

I have never owned the Dunlops you mentioned, but I think they will be way better than the RT/S you have. I had the RT/S and they suck. Awful tire.
If you have to get tires for under $150 each, the dunlops may be a good bet. although higher in price, you won't find a better tire than a BFG in my opinion. I am on my second set of A/T's....got 50,000 miles on my first set. I know you are looking at M/T's, I have had them before as well and they are great tires too, just won't get as good mileage or snow traction.

You are absolutely correct Rebel. My opinion of Goodyear Tires has gone from best to worst in one miserable experience with Wrangler RT/S tires. 33K miles and 4 rotations and I am looking for new tires? WHAT THE ____! The have absolutely no wet traction either. JUNK with a capitol J!
Based on my extensive research here, consumer reports, The Tire Rack, and talking with other truck owners I have narrowed my selection to the BFG AT'S and the MICHELAN LTX AT. I am leaning towards the MICHELAN as they are a little more rounded at the edges and will more than likely be quieter. Everything else, including price is pretty equal.
By the way, Consumer Reports rated the Dayton Timberline AT highest of all all-terrain tires with a price of $57. I went to Tires Plus and they wanted $125 each. I dont know where the folks from CR shop, but it aint in NE Wisconsin. I am not buying an off-brand for basically the same price as the common stuff.

I think there is a consensus that the RT/S tire is junk. Why does Ford continue to use them as an OEM tire? I love my Supecrew, but cannot understand why Ford would outfit a $30K+ truck with tires the rival pepboys or General's for performance.
I dont do alot of off-roading, so the MT/R tires is out of the question. My wife drives the truck alot, and would get very pissed! I have been looking on Ebay for tires/wheels, and have seen many a set of MT/R's being snatched up. I wonder where they get them all from.

I looked at the Dunlop Radial Mud Rovers (LT265/70/17) when I recently purchased new tires, and the guy that owned the tire shop told me I wouldn't be happy w/ them because they don't last and you won't get many miles out of them.
I ended up getting Hoosier Radial D/Ts for $600 including road hazard and lifetime mount and balance - which are the exact same tire as the Big O X/T.
Ford created a new tire size and it's dificult to find the right tire size on the shelf, and not many manufactures offer a 275 or 285 tire for the 17 inch wheel.
