NO!

The tires they give us are little as it is.....keep your 17's or 16's, go smaller if you want new wheels, bigger sidwalls look beter!

It does seem to be the trend now a days........ More for SUV's, but I've seen one or two 4x4 trucks with 'em too. I personally wouldn't do it, but I think that as long as there is a decent amount of sidewall still showing, at least 4 or 5" worth, it's ok. What I find "funny looking" are the ultra large diameter wheels with teeny tiny sidewall tires. If you run over a peeble, it'll bend the wheel....... Seen more people painting their F150 dashes different colors too :( , but that's another topic...........

Ugggggg. For the love of god don't do it. i mean why did you buy a 4x4 if you want to ruin it with 20's. I have 20's and they look great but i would never ever think about putting them on a 4x4 its sacralige. Just get some 16" rims and some 35's or 33's. This is all just my opinnion but if you want 20's trade your truck in for a 4x2...good luck whatever you decide. Latez

Just my opinion here. I would'nt do it . I think it would look goofy with those on a 4x4. I hate having the 17" rim's on my 4x4. I wish I had 16". The more side wall the better on a 4x4. IMO

sam99flare 04-10-2002 04:35 PM

thanks for the info. much appreciated. still undecided but maybe look into smaller wheel size with more sidewall. right now i have the 16" wheels with 255/70/16. just thinking more wheel would look better. maybe 17's or 18's might do the trick.;)

I looked at a Ram this past weekend that had the factory 20's. It was a 4X4 and it looked sweet. The tires they had were 60 series, so they had plenty of sidewall. If you aren't planning on mudding, or offroading, go for it. I really like the look.

Lariat4wd here on the board has a kick butt set of 20's. Do a search for a few threads he has posted in. He has a few pictures that'll make you want to go for it.

Good luck, and rememeber that it's your truck!

Thanks goneloco !! I looked up lariat4wd's pics of his truck and the 20's look killer on their. Gonna e-mail him and find out if their was any problems putting them on or after he got them on. The dodge 4wd is pretty sweet looking with the 20's and 275/60/20 goodyears.:D

ok i don't have a ford but my friend has a 97 4x4 explorer whats the lug pattern and what offset in (mm) if you all know it, will he need for his rims to sit flush w/ the wheel well? he wants 20's he should be able to do a 2/2 drop correct? and where can he get parts for a 4x4 drop? i don't know anything about ford. i'm a chevy guy.

Getting good tires for the 17" rims is hard enough. There are just a few new choices now, especially for M/T tires for off-road, plus the price is way higher than the same size tire with a taller sidewall for 16 & 15" rims.

Bigger sidewall does look better. The 275 AT/S rubber that replaced my 265 RT/S doesn't really look any meatier because the 17" rim looks so large.

Next time I'm going aftermarket 16" rims and larger tires.

i put 20's on a 4x4 SUV.. so what is that????

i think they look good.
i hate those trucks with 16" wheels that stick out 4" from the truck..
it looks "mexicanish"

it all depends on what "you" like..

its your money you are spendign so do what you want..
you cant go offroad in a navigator anyway so i thought why not.

i had actually planned on putting a 6" lift with some 35's but soon changed.....

all the girls around here seem to like them...and that is all that matters to me, aside from baseball,,

:D :D

The bigger the size of the wheel, the more brittle it is. If you ever try to go offroad they'll probably break. I wouldn't do it.

You Can't go wrong with 20's

Yep, I like that new Dodge too, but here in the North Dallas/Plano area, if you're not rolling on 20" rims at the minimum, your ride just "Ain't Fly".
