Grinding when almost at full stop

I can’t figure it out for the life of me, my brake pads have 70 if not more than 70% of life left. The Rotors aren’t scratched , when I break normal nothing happens it bstop normal but say when I get cut off or something I have to brake really quick when it’s coming to almost an end it grinds really bad and I feel like I lose breaking power. What could it be. Thanks in advance. I have a 99 f150 5.4l

Sounds like the ABS cutting in.

Might sound like a dumb question but what does that mean, is my ABS bad or something? What can I do to fix it?

Also I forgot to mention my abs light is not on nor do I have a code for it

It's NORMAL. That's how ABS works. Mine does exactly what you are saying when I jam on the brake pedal as hard as I can. Just happened to me the other day - some dingbat ran a red light as I was entering the intersection doing 20 mph. It stopped in time but it made a hell of a racket and the pedal went almost all the way to the floor.
