5x135 F150 Wheels on a 5x5.5 Hub
Hey all,
Been a LONG time since I've posted. I've got a question that hopefully won't sound stupid. I'd like to mount a set of '97 vintage 5x135 wheels on a vehicle made for 5x5.5". Has anybody ever taken these wheels and re-drilled a new 5-lug pattern in the spaces between the original holes? I'm not talking about elongating the existing holes. I'm assuming that if this could work, those new holes would have to be countersunk for a lug-centric application. The wheels I have are 17" aluminum, with what I call the "teardrop" pattern in them like would come on the STX/Sport models, if that matters. Thanks for any advice.

Follow-up to Last Question
I guess I'm thinking of something that may not have been done before. Let me ask a follow-up. If you buy the adaptors to mount on your 5x5.5 hubs to use a 5x135 wheel, what do you do about the fact that these wheels are hub-centric? All that the adaptor does is convert one bolt pattern to another. There is no hub center on the adaptor. So how does anybody really use these? I've seen them, but I don't know if anybody's actually buying or using them. Again, I appreciate any feedback.

You can find them hub centric for 5 x 135 but I've never looked for 5.5's. You would think they exist. Just make sure they are billet Aluminum. I've had a set on my truck for 3 years that went to a mustang lug pattern without issue. Used lock tight on the adapter lugs. Also remember that whatever the thickness of the adapter is is how much more the wheel will stick out.

Also Included are 4 wheel adapter for older Ford 5 lug 135mm to 139mm. Adapters will also work on dodge ram

chipdog,
Is that a picture of your truck? If so, have you had any issues with those wheels on that truck? I was just strongly advised from a guy who runs a tire and brake shop that the 5x135 wheels still need to have a hub to center to. He says that the lugs themselves are not meant to carry the load without a hub. I have one 5x135 wheel being drilled to a 5x5.5 to see how it comes out. But then, what will tell me that it is or isn't safe to drive that way? I saw one wheel spacer ad on Ebay that actually said "NOT FOR USE ON FACTORY FORD WHEELS". Any more comments/suggestions/advice? Thanks for everyone's help.
