Tire and wheel suggestions with my bilstein 5100's
 

I'm looking for suggestions for Tires and rims on my 2009 F150 xlt supercrew. I recently put 5100's on the front at the highest setting which gave me about a 2" lift in front. I have pro comp aal on the rear and 5100's. That gave me a slight rake. Almost looks level at times.
My question is, will I be able to clear 35 inch tires? I would say no problem with the rear but not sure about the front. I think I could just go with 33" tires and 18" rims and I would say that would look fine.
But I really would like to get 35's with 20" rims. I originally wanted to do a 4" or 6" lift but I couldn't do that without buying aftermarket rims and tires at the same time. I can't afford to drop 4-5k at one time. I'm trying to do it little by little.
If I could get away with 35's right now, I might lift it down the road or at least have the option. I'm thinking if I got 33", I might just leave it but I get bored easy!

I like the XD series, monster, etc. also Fuel rims.

P.S Any Backspacing, offsets, tire widths I should know about?

I'd look for a set of OEM 20's and go with BFG KO2's in a LT285x65x20...

Also, I just read something about traction control issues. Do you know anything about this?

They did have some traction control problems a few years ago running taller tires but I haven't heard of any lately. The best bet for clearing 35's is to stay with the stock wheels or ones with close to stock specs. A 20x9 with 5.75 inches of backspacing should work OK. I'd try to get a tire that's 34.5 inches tall and 12 wide maximum to avoid rubbing. 285x65x20 or a 295x60x20 should work OK...do your homework before any high dollar purchase and then have clearance problems.

Thanks PawPaw! You've sort of talked me into the 20 rim now. I think I will look for the best rim to suit my needs, order it online, and bring to my local tire shop and have them work with me. It's hard to say, but if I have the rims, it's a start.

The brown truck is my '11 Lariat 4x4 with a 2 inch level and running LT305x55x20 Nitto Terra's on stock 20's. The silver truck is my current '13 Platinum with 275x60x20 Toyo AT2's on stock Platinum wheels.

Very Nice! I really like the fatter tire like your brown truck especially if I went with 33's. Another question, a guy near me is selling 20"x10" rockstar rims with -24 offset and 5.71 Backspacing. He has 33x12.50 federal MT tires on them with 2k miles on them. They are coming off a hummer but the lugs match. They look like they stick out a good bit on the hummer. The deal is good. I would basically be getting the tires for free and the rims are perfect condition. Of course he shad I could try them on. I'm wondering if these would work for my truck? Work for a future truck? Could I put larger tires like the bfg's you were talking about I I decide to? Or should I buy something like a 20x9 with an 18 offset or something.
I'm considering these because the deal is really good and he might be having a hard time selling them. Would these be a good buy for my truck? How much will that offset affect bigger tires and performance of my truck?

What kind of Tires are you planning to purchase? All Terrain/Highway/Winter?

Personally I like the wheels and tires tucked in the wheelwells with the stock wheel specs. The wider the wheel the more the tires will stick out in the front and may cause rubbing problems. Also any road splash or rocks can be thrown up and really cause havoc on the sides of your truck if you don't have some type of flares. The taller you go on tire size will affect the truck's performance and you will need a programmer to correct it. Large tires are real heavy so expect a 2 to 3 mpg loss on average. Another good option would be a 275x65x20 (34x11) tall enough to look good but narrow enough to be lighter in weight then a 12 or 12.5 inch wide tire. Stock Ford 20's are 8.5 inches wide with a +44 offset and close to 6.5 inches in backspace...tires that are 12.5 wide on these wheels will be real close to the upper control arm. I had only 1/4 inch clearance on my brown truck with the 305x55x20's but no rubbing. The 20x10 Rockstars with the backspacing you stated will stick out over 2 inches more then stock and may cause problems...a 6x135mm is needed to fit our Ford trucks from 04 to present unless you have a 7 lug wheel with the heavy payload pkg.

Well, I guess I could always get flares. But I like your thinking. I think it looks nice sticking out a little. But the wide stance on a leveled truck isn't necessary. I might not waste my time trying them on. I like the rockstar a but if I were to buy new, I probably would do something else. The deal is great and that's why I hate to pass it up but oh well.
