Best handling tires for on road

My 04 screw 4x4 is needing new rubber and seeing as my new job gave me a work truck, my personal is now just a toy. Looking for some good sticky rubber for the streets, I rarely get off pavement. Tread life is not a concern. I currently have 17 inch wheels but will upgrade if need be to get the proper tire. Thanks ahead guys

As far as I know, smaller wheels (with OEM diameter tires) will have better ride comfort but suffer on handling, due to increased roll. Larger wheels (with OEM diameter tires) won't be as soft and comfortable, but will tend to have stiffer sidewalls and handle better.

I think the reason many people on this site claim that LT tires handle better than P, even at the same size, are because of the stiffer sidewalls.

So you could try a 17" LT tire, but you'd probably only find all-terrain or mud-terrain tread patterns.

You might want to consider a lowering kit for better handling as well.

Hmmm, just went from P to LT. Even at 45 psi they are no where near as nice a ride as the P's were. It rides like a truck now!

Michelin LTs 265/70x17 stock size on mine and they ride nice. The tread is a street tread.

Not sure if you're questioning what I said or not. Are you saying "rides like a truck now!" is a good or bad thing. I prefer a softer car/SUV-like ride but many people feel more confident in a rough riding/tougher setup.

The point is there's a big difference between ride quality and good handling. Almost like you can't have both without dropping some money on suspension upgrades.

Tire guy once joked to me that the P is for passenger, pavement,or parked and P is not the letter you want to see on your truck if you ever drive it off pavement or take it out of Park........
It's a truck,if you want a car ride, get a car. I see a lot of cars driving around that look like they want to be a truck but will never be one.IMHO
