Tire size help, please

I have a 2015 F150 XLT, SuperCab, 6ft Box, 2.7EB, 3.73.

Currently has stock wheels and tires.
265-70-17

I am trying to figure out the largest tires i can get on the 17" wheels that i can, without a lift or level. I am pretty sure 285-70-17 would be perfectly fine, I would just need the speedo adjusted. Also pretty sure the gearing is fine for larger tires than I could ever use.

Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance :)

4x4 or 4x2?

Unhittable 07-16-2015 09:51 AM

Right...it's a 4X4

285x70x17 for sure...295x70x17 would be close at stock height (33.5x12)

Great. Thank you for the info. I looked all over but couldn't find nor figure it out...lol. I had only owned cars all my life, but fell in love with the new F150 and bought one as soon as could :)

You'll learn about trucks quickly on this site. The 3.73 gearing is what you want when you go to taller tires. Hope the 2.7 Eco is enough engine for that heavy truck! I love the 3.5 in mine...has more power then what I thought it would.

To have any chance of clearing those tires you'll need a 17x8 wheel with 5.5 inches of backspacing. I had 17x9 wheels with 5 inches of backspacing on my leveled '04 Lariat running 315x70x17 BFG TA/KO's and they rubbed in the front when making hard turns...this was even after trimming. I later went to some 17x8 wheels with the stock 5.5 inch backspacing to eliminate the rubbing when turning.

315x70x17 BFG AT's on 17x9 wheels that rubbed.

These 17x8 wheels cured the rubbing in the front problem.

Do you think 33/12.50r17 will look to small or a 305/70r17? The wheels I want have 5.04 of back spaceing and the offset is 6mm the wheel is 17×8.5

I had some 295x70x17 Toyo MT's that I really liked (33.5x12) they fit great on the 17x9 wheels I had with no rubbing. Didn't stuff the wheelwells like the 315x70's did.

I had the 295x70x17 Toyo MT's on my '04 Lariat. They were on 17x9 with 0 degree offset American Racing Craters. 33.5x12 and fit perfect on these wheels.

So you think I should go with a 295/70r17? A 305/70r17 comes out to be 33.8 inches I'm just really looking for the biggest tire I can put on it with the wheels I want to get without having any issues

My '04 was leveled 2-1/2 inches and being a 4x4 the 295x70x17 fit perfect on my 17x9 wheels with a 0 offset. They stuck out 2 inches more then stock and still were wide enough to give a great looking stance. Any larger and they may have rubbed with these wheels when doing any offroading. These sizes are kind of rare and only Toyo or their sister company Nitto may have them. They are fairly expensive and heavy tires but I found the Toyo MT's to be worth it. Good highway ride and quiet too. Tires were on my '04 when I sold the truck and had 24K miles on the tires and they were less then half worn. Good luck on your decision!

One more question do you have the rough country 2.5 lift?
