Looking for some good mud tires

I'm looking for some good mud tires. I'm honestly just looking more for an aggressive look. I want a tire that won't knock my gas mileage down a lot because it's already like 12. And I don't care if it's loud but I don't want it to roar and it just needs to have an aggressive tread pattern and side wall. I don't want just a plain side wall, it needs to have something

Nitto trail grapplers should give you the aggressive look that you want, and they aren't too loud. Tire size is what kills gas mileage, so don't go much larger than what you already have and you shouldn't see too large of a decrease.

I have Toyo M/T's and love them .... they are fairly quit for the aggressiveness that they are (you can hear them don't expect a whisper haha)

I agree, I'd recommend the Trail Grapplers or Toyo MT's. Toyo manufacturers both and the performance is virtually identical. They are the two most pavement friendly mud tires available.

I have the Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ and love them. They have got me through some deep mud and work great for everything else. Aggressive tread pattern and side wall.

It's crazy, I was just looking. These tires come stock with Tread Depth: 18.5/32

and I just had them rotated and checked the other day.

I am still at (2) with 11/32 and (2) with 12/32 depth.

And I have 41,000 miles on them.

^jeez! Cooper makes those and the ATZ (even more than the MTZ) is my favorite looking tire, but I've always said and even pretty much decided that I was getting Toyos or Nittos for the tread life. That's ridiculous wear. You must drive like a grandma

After the last thread, I wanted to ask you about them, but saw that they had so much life left in a pic and decided that you must not have a lot of miles on them and you didn't daily the truck haha.

Haha.. It's my daily driver, although I only average like 6,250 miles per year.

I had them put on on Dec 12th, 2008 haha

And I really don't drive like a gma.. I speed and take off hard, but I just never spin tires really

Shanks...you posted a pic of the new ATZ P3; is that what you actually have?? So it's a great tire? Any pics on the truck if you actually have the P3's?

Shanks12 04-20-2014 10:26 PM

Galaxy,

I guess I am not sure then. Did they change from just ATZ to ATZ P3?

I can't find any distinct information between the two. I bought mine in late 2008, so they could have changed the name of them or something slightly different I guess.

EDIT: Now that I look at it, the sidewall tread design is different.

Here is it on my truck:

Not great pics from far away.. but here are 2 decent ones.

I knew the first pic you posted was kinda funky, but I know they still sell the ones that are on your truck. Or at least companies have the pics for the tires still lol

Hercules Trail Digger MT. Got 35K on my last set, Only one rotation before I discovered odd front wear, figured out too late it was bad ball joints. Rears were way over 50% left. Could have gotten 60K out of them easy...

They were reviewed by Four Wheeler Magazine back in '07 and scored near the top if not the top in their mud tire comparison.

SUPER aggressive tread and sidewalls, I won't like, they sound like mud tires, not as bad as most, but worse than some...

Mostly going to find them at independent tire dealers, but they can usually be had for a lot less $$ than say BFG, Nitto, or Toyo. Close to or just under where you would be for Cooper STT.

Galaxy 05-03-2014 08:31 PM

Yea, you have the old (standard) ATZ. The P3 is a brand new tire; completely different from what you have. I'm getting the P3's next!

i have the Nitto trail grapplers (295/70r17 which is a 33" OD) and love them! smooth ride and surprisingly quite on the inside for a MT. I just put 7,000 miles on them and the wear is great (i rotate them every 4,000 miles)
