Gear Ratio for 33's???
I have a 97 2 wheel drive that has a 2 inch suspension lift and soon to have a 3 inch body lift. To fill the wheel wells, I'm thinkin at least 33 inch tires, if not bigger! My question is, will I lose so much power that new gear ratios are necessary. If they are necessary which ratio should I lean towards? I think somebody already recommended 4:10. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks |
i got 33's with 3.73 gears. the 3.73 gears are a good ratio, but if i were to do it again i would definitely go with the 4.10. hope this helps, good luck!

What I noticed most was the the trans would kick out of overdrive alot sooner than before I put on my 285's.

First of all, what gears do you have in the truck now. If you have the 3.55, you might be able to get away with it. I had a 97 4.6L manual tranny and ran 285/75/R16 on it. It had a 3.08 gear ratio. I would have to shift out of od when going up hills and what not but i was able to get around really well. I was getting damn near 18 mpg with it.
Secondly, there are a lot of gear table out there. My favorite is at www.4lo.com . There are gear tables and a gear selector for changing tire size. I recommend checking it out. |
Look here for the answer, these guys have more than enough info to assist....it helped me to decide.....

I have 3.55 gears with 33s and it sucks. I am going to add 4.56 gears and 37" Super Swampers soon as well as a 5.5"Super LIft.
