Do you want more sidewall flex for off road ability, particularly in the rocks and sand, or is this a street truck?
The more sidewall you have, the more room to flex your tires have before transferring forces to the suspension, frame, cab and then you... That is why all the serious off road rigs you see have smaller diameter rims, larger diameter tires. If you only do light off roading, mostly street / highway driving, then 20s is fine, and in some ways preferable, the shorter sidewalls flex less, meaning less flex with lateral / cornering forces... I stick with 17s because I would likely bust a rim if I were running 20s...

Actually, I got 30K out of my first set of Hercules MTs, and had over 50% tread on the rears. I never rotated after front end problems became obvious... I fully expect to get 50+ out of these...
Sounds like you are leaning to the 20s, which is great, but I would go with 35s instead of 33. A 33" tire on a 20" rim looks too small...

Oh, and to update post#5 here from April, my truck is now leveled ( Rancho Quicklift ) and my worn out 33s look like stock 32s now. I have 295/60-20 ( 34x12.10 ) Trail Grapplers in the garage to be put on as already mentioned. I'll full size this photo.

I'm expecting the same out of the Nittos, if the truck ever gets the miles added on. 4.5yrs & 52k miles that is the absolute best I ever got out of a tire. Not sure how others consider it, but another part of my maintenance on these tires would include applying Meguiars Hyperdressing to the side walls after every wash/detail, more frontal than inside but when I had time or them off the truck I would do the back side. The dressing conditions the rubber some, no sidewall dry rotting here.
