MM 951's and Mickey Thompson 33X13.50's
Hello Guys,
I went on Friday to my local 4x4 shop and had a plan to get a leveling kit and 951's and 33" Trail Grapplers, I am looking for what the owner called a "BULLDOG" stance on my 04 SuperCab. After much research that is what i thought i wanted. However, when i got there he said that Mickey Thompson made a 33x13.50" that would still out a bit more. The reason he said this is because one of his employees has 33X12.50" Trail Grapplers and he said first they are not a true 33" tire, they are 32.xx" and secondly they dont stick out that far. He took me out to look at it and he was right, although the tires had some miles on them i couldnt get a good look like if they were knew. My question is two fold, does anyone have these 33x13.50" tires and if so can they post pics, secondly is he just trying to sell me up? Showed me the MT's were actually 33.3" inches in overall height. Looking for a peak before I throw down the $2700 for this upgrade.:noob: |
A lot of how far the tire/wheel combo "sticks out" will depend on the width and backspacing of the wheels. For instance a 10 inch wide wheel with 4.5 inches of BS will stick out 3.5 inches farther than your stock wheels.

Yep. Check my pics in profile gallery.
2.5" leveling kit. Moto Metal 951. 18". 4.5 backspace MTZ 325/60/18 = 33x13.50. Good set up. I always get asked if I have a full suspension lift. Tires are a little loud, but pretty much on par with most radial street type mud terrains. Great tires, but expensive. However they should last you a good 50k miles. I know a couple people that got a lot of mileage out of the MTZs even with poor rotation habits. Mine started to get pretty loud near the end of their life, probably due to not rotating enough. So that would likely happen with any mud terrain tire. I am personally replacing them with Terra Grappler ATs. Just want something a little less aggressive that gets me the same nice stance. I'll subscribe this thread. Let me know if you have any more questions. |
Also.
Is $2700 the price for the leveling kit, wheels, and tires installed? What size wheels are you getting? I highly suggest the 18" wheels. I have saw other sizes and the proportions are best IMHO at this size. Make sure you get the 4.5 backspace, not the 6" backspace. The 4.5 backspace will give you that aggressive wide stance. |
jimc2004, yes the $2700 is for the leveling kit, wheels, and tires installed. Yeah its a little pricey I think but I know him and he does excellent work. Also, I did go with 18's i just think that 20's are too much rim for a truck your trying to give an off-road look too. I have 20s on my new Explorer and they do ride nice though. Also I believe we did go with the 4.5" BS, so I am thinking my truck will be on par with yours? Thanks for steering me to your pics. I pretty much have the same truck with different bolt-ons. I love the stance you got there. My truck is actually getting done today, I did go with the black 951's though, something different from the same old chrome i have had on previous trucks. I plan on getting it back today so i will take some pics and post when i can.

Oh just noticed, you have MTZ, i think i got ATZ, so maybe they wont be as noisey. Doesnt really matter my flowmasters pretty much drown out everything.

That should look awesome. MTZ's or ATZ's, either way it will be good.
That price really isn't horrible, especially since you don't have to install the leveling kit yourself. Its not super hard, but a good bit of work depending on your abilities. I like the black ones, they are cool as well. Congrats on the new set up. Its going to look and feel like a whole new truck when you get it all on! :thumber: |
my 305/60-18's are slightly smaller than a 33 and are about 12 wide.
also consider going to a 17 inch rim, I have 18's and there are a bunch of tires that i would like to run but they only have them in 17's or 20's |
Well here she is, just got her back yesterday.
http://http://www2.snapfish.com/snap...A%22s%22%7D%7D I couldnt figure out how to upload my pics, I guess they are too big. Let me know what you think. |
@jimc2004, thanks for the advice and the pics, i posted a link above to pics of my truck. I love it and it does ride like an whole different truck. My old tires were a beat so just the new tires alone made a difference but I love the stance. I am happy with my purchase and American Truck Center in Woodbury, New Jersey did a great job on the install, very clean.
