want to paint tires black
 

hello all,

id like to paint my tires black to get a nice dark clean look to both my factory tires on my factory wheels, to blacken the white lettering mostly as well as to get a nice deep black finish on my 33" toyos that i run in the summer. tried to do some looking on my own but was unable to come up with much. hoping the forum provides me with a bit of insight on a product or two out there that will help me accomplish this without breaking the bank. thanks and hope to hear from ya'll.

Hmm. Don't think it'll work.

Tire wet? Paint on the tires will just crack off with sidewall flex. If you wanna get rid of the white letters, sand paper is your friend.

Clean them with bleche-white, then use a good tire dressing. That's the best you can do!

Don't like white letters? Remount and balance them, and turn em inside out. One side should have white letters, the other should have black. Your local auto parts store will have a decent tire foam that should blacken em up pretty decent. The devil inside me want to suggest that ya use some good ole Tremclad..... but that simply won't work. Sure would be funny if ya did though.

LOL paint ruins rubber. Go buy some all purpose cleaner plus and scrub them.

thanks for all the replies everyone. i was unable to recall where i saw it previously when i posted the thread cause it was a while ago. but heres a link to the youtube video where i originally saw this. thought there were other comparable products out there just like this one represented in the video.

but for the record i have tried, and typically use alot of the recommendations from all the members that responded but it just never seems to last long enough. seems like im redoing it every other week. but heres the video link. tell me what you think. thanks

I'm not sold. He says it should lst several months, but I would think that would depend on mileage, and sun exposure. Add to that, when it begins to fail, will it flake off or crack, or what? I wouldn't bother with any of these types of products. Just foam em once a week.

Look at the sidewall of that tire though. I can tell you right now if you did that on a M/T sidewall it would be a PITA.

years ago there was a product called "Tire Black" (and Tire White for painting whitewalls)...it was very good, did not peel, etc.

The Forever Black products for trim are excellent as it is actually a dye.

My dad used to come home with a pen they used at work for writing on steel. They stunk to high Heaven and whatever you wrote on it wasn't coming off! Anyhow, I decided to try it to "color" the white outlined letters on my camaro I had at the time. I bet if those tires at still around the letters are still black. Can't remember the brand name on it for the life of me. Maybe try a local fab shop?

miller tire has tire paint , quart or gallon, go to tire supplies on their website.
