New tires

So i decided i really needed to get some new tires and go bigger. So i have a 2000 XLT with a 3 inch body lift and i was wondering from everybody else what size tires and/or what tire i should go with? i dont have money for super expensive ones. i was told Mickey Thompson Baja Claws were nice but idk what size any help?

They're expensive too. I'd check out the yokohoma geolander m/t's if you want a tread pattern like that for cheaper. And if I remember correct your 4x4 so you can clear 35's with a body lift.

Yeah it is a 4X4 and i am up for pretty much any type of tread pattern. I just want a nice agressive look without going too big and how much MPG will i lose with 35's?

What's your gear ratio?

MJMoog34 10-08-2011 09:55 PM

i have stock gears right now but im willing to spend money on putting 4.56 gears in :)

4.56 may be over kill depending on what tire you are wanting to run... if money is a factor, which it is for most people these days.. Check in with the Summit Mud Dawgs. My friend got a set of 35x12.50x16 out the door for $560 (granted this was a while ago and tires have went up..) -- they are not a bad looking tire and he loved them.

but if i go with a 35'' tire isnt it good to put in 4.56 gears to help with the trans and the mpg a little?

pizzaman711 10-08-2011 10:18 PM

If you do mostly city yes, if it's highway no, 4.10's would be better. But if your stock gears are 3.55's or 3.73's I'd run it with the tires before you decide to regear, the power and mpg difference won't be that great with those ratios.

yeah i live in montana and i do mostly city and maybe 200 miles of highway every half a year. and those Maxiss are kinda sweet! except they are almost 300 a piece now for 35''

I wouldn't re-gear right off the bat. I agree with pizzaman711.. Put them on and see how YOU like it .. I bet you won't notice that much of a difference power wise.

ok and i went to look at my friends chevy last night and he had 35'' fierce tires? i think that is what they are called they look sooo sweet tho. and is there any way i can improve my mpg with other things once i put bigger tires on?

pizzaman711 10-09-2011 05:07 PM

You can get a tune, it'll give you some back and be able to reset your speedo/odometer.

ok well there is a guy in town selling 4 Mickey thompson baja atz 315 for $300 with 60% tread left. i wish i had the money but im still trying to sell my sub
