Opinions on tire upgrade.
 

I have a 2004 2wd XLT SCREW that I put 18" FX4 wheels on. I plan on installing an Auto Spring 2.5 inch leveling kit in the spring and was wanting to increase my tire size a bit and get something a little more aggressive than the stock tires. I'm considering BFG AT/KOs and was wanting to get some recommendations on what size I should consider upgrading to and opinions on this particular tire. Thanks.

BFG A/T KO's used to be a very long lasting good tire. The make up of the tire has since changed and they do not last near as long as they did. I did alot of research before putting new shoes on my truck and found that my tried and true Toyo OC A/T's are long lasting on/off road tires. Comparably priced to the BFG's as well. I went with 285/75/18 on my stock rims after putting the Bilstein 5100's on and have NO complaints at all with them. Just keep them properly inflated and rotated every 5-6k and you should easily get 50-60k out of them. :thumbsup: Good luck to you with whatever tires you choose. :beers:

x2 about the BFG's. They look incredibly sexy but they dont seem to last as long as they used to. My Scout II has Toyo OC's as well and they are great for off roading and on the street as well. However I did just get Michelins LTX AT's and LOVE them. Great on and off road. Good luck.

If you want a more aggresive look and still keep very good ride quality, consider the BFG KM2 M/T's. I've had a set for about 1500 miles now and I love everything about them. They look good, perform well offroad, have a quiet/smooth ride, and they'll last 40-50K if maintained properly!

If you still want to keep it in the A/T category, consider the Nitto Terra Grapplers. Definitely the smoothest riding A/T in my opinion. Can't beat a tire that looks great, performs well, and rides smooth. It's also another tire that can get 40-45K with proper maintenance!

A 285/65-18 (33x11.50) would be a good size.

BFG KOs are sick! but Ive noticed a lot of the tread gets torn off and chipped away especially if you do (offroad) driving. I hunt where the roads are pretty rocky, and after about 10 days my buddies BFGs were wasted and my ProComp Xtreme All Terrains were still in good condition, they are pretty BEEFY and have a lot of rubber so they last a long time too. and they are not loud like muds!

I've been happy with my BFG A/T. I have a 2" level with 305/65R18 on the factory FX4 wheels.

how big of tires can you go before they rub?

There are a number of good options in the all terrain class. Go over to Tire Rack and read some of the reviews.

I had good luck with the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor's on my 05 (Great in snow). ON my 09, I replaced the stockers with Firestone Destination A/T in the OEM size (275/65/18). Only had them on for about 5k miles, but love them so far and we have had a ton of snow in Mn this season. The reason I went with them is their consistently high rating at Tire rack and good reviews wherever I researched them. I also have a co-worker who bought them before me and he gave glowing reviews as well. Plus they were a bit cheaper than the Goodyears or BFG's. If you just need a tire that will give you better than OEM traction or handling, whether off road or in snow and still give the same quiet smooth highway manners that your OEM tires do, than the Firestones are a great choice for the money.
