tire size
i am looking to get new rim and tires. i know wat rims i am getting. i was thinking of getting 37's 37.5's or even 38's. People have been telling me that if i get 38's i have to change the gears in my rear. How true is that? i dont want to have to do that. thats why i am wondering if it has to be done before i buy 38's. if u could plz help me i would appreciate it. thaks

You don't HAVE to regear, its just going to bog the truck down, if you can deal with it u don't have to. Might put a pretty good bit of extra strain on ur trans.
|
You will lose a lot of power but more important will be the strain on your tranny. I am running the stock 3.73's with 35's right now but that is only because I bought the truck this way and I have a lifetime powertrain warranty. My last truck I had 37's and 4.88's. You can get away with 4.56's and 37's - 38's but for your enjoyment and the longevity of your tranny you want to go with 4.88's.
|
also what's your suspension setup?
|
If you go larger than 35's you really, really need to regear.
|
But the transmission will NOT explode, just won't last that long. :D
Hellfar, i'd do it. my weak tranny(car transmission) and 35's was doin fine for like a 11k miles, i just got tired of it being so slow. |
i have a 6 inch skyjacker kit. with 35's now. i also have a 3 inch leveling kit. my tires look to small dint know if i should get 37.5's or 38's. How hard is it to change the gearing out?

I agree. Not unless you know what ur doing for sure.
Mine was 250 per axle (500). Plus about 450 for the gears themselves and the install kits. |
I'll sell you my wheels and tires for near what you will pay for 37's new. These wheels where $3500 new. You can buy these and regear for under that more than likely.
|
I was the same way with my 38's. Then I re geared and I love it.
It is a very good investment. You don't realize how Much power you lost till u get them put in |
wats wheels and tires do u have send me picture on here or to my phone 610 563 3342
