275/70/18's rubbing
I just put 275/70/18 SilentArmor Pro-Grade tires on a 2009 F150 4x2 with a 1 1/2 leveling kit and the tire is rubbing around corners with any kind of bump. Anybody else have similar problems? I was told these tires would fit with no leveling kit so I'm kinda bummed...

Can you find out where it is rubbing? Cut it hard and have a friend look as you slowly creep? That is a hair over 33" so it is kind of tall for a 2wd truck.

"Drive my truck for me while I hang onto the front bumper to see where it's dragging" Actually we've already done that, and it doesn't rub fully turned standing, but any kind of compression in the suspension causes it to catch. I think I'm just gonna go back to stock. With the leveling, it doesn't look bad, I just don't want to screw anything up if I were to hit a pothole around a corner.. When I got the level done, they said a 4x2 will handle a 33.5 with a level (and even discounttire told me it would fit with no lift). It's close, but no cigar :-( |
On a side note, does anybody actually like those access steps on the new F150? I pulled the passenger side one off and stuck it on Ebay and may do the same thing with the driver side one... I don't understand why you can't just enter through the tailgate if you need up there :-)

If you are having to search for the rubbing, it must be very minor.

Think it may be the sidewall flexing when you hit a bump that causes the tire to become a little wider for a split second making it rub in a low clearance location? I would think you could see scuff marks somewhere under there. Just throwing ideas out there....

Exact same tire on my 06 SCREW 4X4, no leveling and it does not even come close to the body, frame or suspension

Yeah.. That was the other mistake I made... When I asked about lifting 4x2 vs 4x4 they told me they could do a 3" on the 4x2 but only a 2" on the 4x4 with the readylift type kit, but when I took it over, the highest they said they can go on a 4x2 without stressing joints was 1.5" which I was afraid wouldn't give me clearance. It looks good (looked better with the 275/70/18's, but if it's rubbing in street driving, I'd hate to push it off road.. They put the OEM's back on (complained a lot), but they didn't charge me anything even though I offered to pay for their time being as though I'd asked for that tire!
