285 75 17's?
someone a while back suggested this size for my 03 Ex 4x4 (maybe Wandell?). I've been hunting around to find an AT tire in this size. So far the only thing I found is the Toyo Open Country. Diamter is 33.8" or so.
OEM size is the 265/70/17. Are there any others that i have overlooked? Most are 285/70s. Nitto has a 295/70, not sure if that will cause rubbing or not. Beyond that I am into the 305/315 and That is just too much (not that I wouldn't like to, but I am in danger of risking my life if I suggest them ;) As for the Toyo's, would I need a leveling kit, using OEM wheels (another cost savings measure). I'd like to do a 4 corner level, like the Daystar or Truxxx. Any suggested combinations are appreciated. |
Go with 285/75/16's with 16x8" Aftermarket wheels, and crank the torsion bars. You dont need a leveling kit.

im confused why you are wanting that size vs the usual recommended 285/70/17 size that many tire companies offer

I think you mean 285/70-17. I've never seen a 285/75-17. Also, you cannot fit 16 inch wheels on an 03 Expy as was suggested. As for tires, Nitto and BFG also make the 285/70-17's.

yes and yes
Wandell had replied to a previous post for me and indicated that the 03 Ex uses larger disks and the 17" wheel is the minimum. No torsion bars either.
The only 285/75 that I've found is the Toyo open country AT. Nice compromise between rim size and tire height. works out to about 33.8". |

im thinking that 03 was the model year change for the expy...it happened prior to the f150 i believe...that would explain the need for larger wheels and lack of torsion bars... f-150 was 97-03 (04 heritage) and then 04-08; expy was 97-02, then 03-08...i think

Yep, you are right. The Expy changed body style in 2003 while the F-150 changed in 2004.

..that explains it! preciate it!:beers: |
i like the sound of that 285/75R17 from toyo. the exact same dimensions as a 305/70R17 but a little narrower. maybe reducing the weight a bit is a good thing, expecially with only 3:55s. they must be rare because ebay has no listing at all in that size. the search will continue.......................
