2004 FX4 18" /New Tires

I am a new member. I have been hearing conflicting views of tire size and rubbing issues for the stock 18" wheels. I want to purchase new larger tires to beef up the truck but don't want the added expense of purchasing wheels.

I almost bought the BFG AT KO 305 65 18. Then I was thinking of buying the Nitto Tera Grapplers 325 60 18. After researching I discovered both of these options rub on the control arm at full lock.

I will be adding a 2" leveling kit to the front and I want to keep the stock wheels. What is the largest AT tire I can put on with no rubbing issues? Please help?

You can fit a 35x12.50-18 but like you have been told, you will have some minor rubbing on the control arms at full steering lock. It won't hurt anything, but some people don't want any touching or rubbing at all.

Still confused?

Is there a larger AT tire that will not rub at all and still look bigger than stock? I will have the 2" leveling kit when I purchase the tires.

One of the replies said the BFG 305 65 18 but That tire rubs on some trucks. Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Try a 285x65x18 BFG AT, these are 33x11.5 and should clear easily.

Chris, look at my pics, they will show you what 285's with a leveling kit will look like. I have zero rubbing issues.

BFG 285 65 18 or BFG 305 65 18?

Thanks for the reply bill. Your truck looks good with the 285's. I would still like to go bigger ( 305's ) on the stock FX4 wheel if possible. The local shop said I could put spacers or a stearing stop to prevent rub in case they do rub.

Has anybody had the 305 65 18's on stock rims with no rubbing issues?

Has anybody with rubbing issues corrected it with spacers or a stearing stop?

Please understand we are talking about very minor rubbing. We are not saying 35x12.50's or 305/65-18's will rub enough to cause any type of damage to the tire or truck.

Thumbs up BFG 305 65 18 AT KO or Nitto Tera Grapplers AT 325 60 18

Alright I'm gonna go for it. The question is which of the above tires will look the best and rub the least? I'm kind of leaning towards the BFG. Any suggestions?

95% highway driving and occasional off road. I will post some pics when It's all said and done.

I love the look of your truck jlStang351. Are those the Nittos 325 60 18?

I noticed it is a differen't stock wheel than the one I have on My FX4.

Strange how some truck's have no rubbing with the 305x65x18's and some do. These tires should be a perfect fit on a leveled 04 and up 4x4.

Cool leveling kit

even with my kit yhe front still sits a lillle low, but i went down a tire size, to see how much tourqe i gained. it made a diff, but when i put on my 35s today i will hopefully slowdown.,enough that i will stop getting speeding tickets. after my tires are on ill take pics, and update my profile with all of my mods, i have added alot of stuff.
