4.56 gears with stock tires
Is anyone running 4.56 gears with stock tires. I'm thinking about getting 4.56 gears for better towing. Took off my 35" tires and put on my stock tires on for winter. Just wondering how 4.56 would work with stock tires and snow.

I don't Know but sounds Fun

Will definitely increase wheel speed. Don't think that's a good thing for snow.

My buddy had 4.56's on his 03 FX4 with the stock tires. He loved it, had alot of torque and was full of power..

Better think about that move. I had my gears put in first. I was running around with 4.56 and stock tires. It was fun but got annoying real fast. You should be able to smoke the tires with just nailing the gas but it sucks on the highway. 75-80mph you'll be 3,000+ and believe me it puts down the gas. If your looking to have fun and not worried about fuel your on the right track. Good Luck.

Suggest that in low-traction areas such as snow, you will have to use an extremely light foot to avoid breaking traction and potentially ending up stuck.
Aside from that, as GMJ91 said, it's going to be up on the RPM band. Perhaps not a show-stopper if this is just a winter move. Just curious - why change? I would think any 35s would have an aggressive tread that is desirable for snow. Not to mention additional ground clearance benefits. And with your current ratio, whatever that may be, the lower effective ratio should help with wheel slip. |
