Tire Options for stock 18s
 

've been lurking around here for a couple of weeks, and am pretty positive I'd like to go with the 305/65/18 tire size. I ordered a leveling kit, and will put that on before the tires, so judging by what I've read here, there shouldn't be any issues. All said, I've got a couple of questions:

1) I can't seem to find any other tire brands that offer the 305/65/18 tire size, and the BFGs are expensive. Anyone have any other options out there? Any other tire sizes comparable to those overall dimensions?

2) If I order the tires online, I have access to tire mounting and balancing machines, and would like to just put them on there myself to save some cash, but I'm at the very brink of being mechanically inclined, and don't know anything about backspacing, etc. Is there anything special I need to do when mounting/balancing the tires?

3) Does getting new tires require an alignment?

4) Is the leveling kit a DIY type-o-job, and how hard is it....

not sure about other who offer that size besdies bfg, new wheels and tires shouldnt require an alignment (correct me if im wrong), and me and my dad (mostly me) installed it i our driveway in a couple hours, its a pretty easy install, pretty straight foward and instructions are decent if you get the AS kit which we did, you should be able to handle it (if i can do it you can do it, trust me)

The 305x65x18 BFG AT to me is an ideal size to go on a stock wheel. On a leveled 4x4 they look great. They are not cheap but if you get them I'm sure you'll be satisfied. I would definitely get them balanced and get the front end aligned after mounting. As far as installing the leveling kit's the autosprings are a fairly simple install. If you go with the Daystar type it's a lot harder and requires a spring compressor to install. Let us know when you get the tires on and the truck leveled!:thumbsup:

Pro Comp makes a 305/70/18. It is the XTreme M/T. You can find it on nwtonline.com. Look in almost any Off Road mag. and you can find there ad with a buy 3 get 1 free special. That should bring the total (tires only) to around $1100. Hope this helped.

1) You can get away w/ a 35x12.5x18 on your stock OEM. 325/65/18 would be pushing it.

2) Try to stay within the stock specs (5-5.5" BS) and you should be good.

3) I don't think new tires require an alignment, but the spacer kit would.

4) I too was intimidated by the spacer kit. I've changed brakes but never popped a ball joint. A buddy more familar w/ cars helped me out - 1 hr for 1st side, 45 min for second.

i say go with the procomp extreme ats in 35x12.50. great tires!
