New BFG AT 285/70/17's on my stock 4x2
I finally bit the bullet and bought the tires I've been eyeballing since I bought my truck. Here's my 2006 Skrew 5.4L 4x2 with brand new 285/70/17 BFG AT's. They fit great, look tough, fill out the wheel wells perfectly and DO NOT RUB at all! No leveling kit on... yet... I'm still considering it. So this is bone stock and they fit fine.
There is a very slightly noticeable drop in power with the new tires, but that's to be expected considering the size difference from the stock 255/65/17's. I'm finally proud to post a pic of my silver skrew. I'll take some better pics when the weather clears up and I can wash it. https://www.f150online.com/galleries...767-189878.jpg |
They look great, good choice!

Looks good. It looks mean and full. Love the color.

Looks great. Amazing what tires can do to the look of a truck!

Whats your tire pressure?
I am in the process of doing the same but on my 04 s/cab 4X4... It was recommended to run the air pressure at 32 psi because of the fact that I am using the stock 7.5 inch rims... They recommend 8.5 inch rims for this tire. What air pressure are you running?
PS. Tires do a great job of filling up the wheel wells. |
I think they look too big in the front and recommend a leveling kit.
|
I did the leveling kit... No effect on the ride but now the tires look soooo small in the wheel wells.

I would have gotten the white letter versions, but that's just me. I had the same tires on my 2WD Black '98 STX Flareside and they looked awesome with the white letters. I put 65K on them before I sold the truck and they still had a ton of tread left. I just put the 18" versions on my 2004 FX4 as well. Great tires. I almost tried the Nitto Terra Grapplers instead, but they didn't have the solid white letters...

Looks great
I agree, a 2.5" level kit would only add to the good looks! |
On my '98 with stock 17" rims I ran them 40psi in the front and 35psi in the rear. May seem a bit high, but it always seemed to make the truck accelerate and handle a lot better, not to mention better gas mileage.
I think you don't need to lift the truck at all. I like the way they fill the wheel wells. Once lifted the tires look smaller and you may find yourself wanting something even bigger to fill the extra space. But again it's all preference. |
Did you notice any difference in the ride better/worse??
|
I think those would look great on my truck! I would probably opt for the white lettering also...is there much difference between an 06 and 07? Do you think those tires would be good on this truck?
https://www.f150online.com/galleries...086&anum=13783 How do you get the image to show up here instead of having to click on the link? I am new to this if you can't tell! |

That is not a loss of power you're feeling. That is loss of gearing because of those tall tires. Put a lower gear like 4.10 or 4.30 and it will feel more powerful than ever.
