how big can I go?

I have wimpy 265/70r17's now, I think 285's will fit no problem, but I am gonna crank the bars up 1" to level it out. can I fit 295/70's or 305/65's? I'm kind of leary of putting a wider tire on the skinny stock wheels (7.5" wide I think?) but I'm definatly not spending the cash on new wheels. any suggestions?

I may crank the bars 2" and get a 1" rear block, but I'd rather not right now if not necesary to fit 295's or 305's.

oh it's a 2001 SuperCrew 4x4
thanks!

I would go with BFG AT KO 305/65/17. Its basically a 33x12.5" tire. The 295 will sit up a little taller but wont be as wide. You can go up to a 315/70/17 tire on your OEM rims without any problems. I have the 285/70/17's and Im upgrading to the 305/65/17's next tire change. They look great but I like the wider look of the 305's. You really dont even have to crank your torsion bars to get the 305's to fit either. I cranked mine because I wanted the truck level...

Hope this helps...

thanks a lot. I have seen afew trucks with 315's on the stock wheels and no lift and they looked WAY too stuffed for my taste. I am gonna crank the bars just to level the truck out regardless of which tire I choose. got any pics of your truck?

Ya, I just posted in another thread about 315's looking stuffed with out a lift. For some pics, just click on the little camera icon at the top right hand corner of my post. Either way, I think 33's look the best on a stock height truck. I've thought about a 3" body lift and upgrade to 35's. Those look amazing on a truck with a body lift, but I dont see that happening in the near future....

I hear you on not lifting the truck anytime soon. I just got rid of my F-250 with a 6" lift and 37's b/c my Wife would never drive it and she won't be happy if I lift this truck, she actually likes to drive it!! these trucks do look awsome with a 3" lift 35's though!!

so now I just have to decide on 285's or 305's. I think only BFG makes 305's and they are kinda pricy, I'll wait until you get tham and see how they look on your truck!!!!!

I checked out the pics, nice lookin truck! the 285's fill out the wheelweels nice but still look a bit skinny, if the 305's are the same height but wider I think they'd look perfect and really sweet!!

Thanks man. I would have gone with the 305's but I wasnt aware that they were even made at that time. It's a fairly new size for BFG. They usually run around $220-240 a tire, depending on where you are. I paid $940 mounting and balancing for the tires I have on now. The 285's and 305's are right about 32.7" tall which is basically a 33. If anything, the 305's are a little smaller diameter but only by a fraction of an inch and not even noticable. But like I said, go with the BFG AT KO 305's and you wont be dissapointed. Its an excellent tire that looks good at the same time. Good luck...

I agree. I'd go with 33's on a stock 4x4.
