Tire wear?
 

I'm about to drop a load on some new tires. I'm debating between the nitto TGs, or the BFG ATs. I was reading reviews about each on the discount tire website and everyone said that the nittos wear really fast, and the BFGs get horrible wet weather traction. I also need to consider the tire roar on the highway. I just want the best tire for the money, since the nittos are like 100 cheaper a tire! Any reviews or advice would be great!!

I just replaced my BFG AT KO's yesterday at 56,000 miles and they had plenty of tread left. I just happened to run across a deal on a set of 35 inch BFG's. I never had a problem with wet weather traction and they are not load. The Nitto's are also an excellent tire.

I've had 4 sets of BFG AT's. This last set sucks because of balancing issues, but they have all gotten excellent treadwear. I have about 30k miles on these and they have about half the tread left.

At 40k miles on my BFG AT's, I still have plenty of tread depth left. Looks like I could make it to 70k or 80k miles. However, I am not impressed with the wet and snow traction for these tires. They don't hydroplane, they just don't grip. Every time I drive that truck I become less impressed with those tires. My minivan w/ 25% tread remaining hydroplanes sometimes, but has better grip when not not hydroplaning than these BFG's. It may have been a good tire 15 years ago when it was designed, but I won't buy another set of these.

Thats what i have been hearing. That would suck to wreck a nice truck because of the tires, not to mention how much they cost. Anyone out there running the nitto TGs?

I'm in the exact same boat. I am wanting to upgrade my stock tires on my '05 4X4 (2.5" lift on front) and was considering the Nitto's in 295-70-17. I also have been reading the reviews and was going to ask opinions on here. I don't care that much about noise, I'm concerned about the tread life. The guy at the Discount Tire store near me said that he drove his truck w/Nitto grapplers and got 50K out of them (mostly all highway), which is what I'm looking for (mostly highway).

Any more thoughts out there? The wife is upset that I'm buying new tires anyway, so I wanted to go the cheapest route IF the Nitto's will get decent treadwear mileage. Thanks!

Forgot to mention that the Discount Tire guy also said that for some reason, Dodge trucks seem to "really eat up the Nitto's" (his exact words). He said that Fords usually get good life out of them, but I'm still looking for those of you with real life experience, rather than a "sales pitch" from the tire dealer. Thanks.

What size are you interested in?

I'm thinking about gettin 305/55-20. still not sure on which ones though. The BFGs look alot better to me, but i can sacrafice that for close to hundred bucks a tire!!!

What about pirelli Scorpian ATR? Looks like its about $60 cheaper per tire in that size and has good ratings (although new) @ Tirerack.
