good tire choice for stock size?

I have a 98 with 265/70-17 tires on it. Right now, it has the Wrangler RT/S tires on it (JUNK!!!).

What is a good tire for mostly on-road driving, occasional trail riding (no mudding). I have no desire to go any bigger, as these tires are plenty big and are expensive enough. I was thinking of a light A/T tire, nothing too aggressive. Any suggestions?

I think the Michelin LTX tire is a great tire for what your looking for. Great ride, and they last a long time. For light trail riding I think you would be ok. Wandell can probably drop some knowledge on you.

I had the Wrangler RT/S's on my truck before my new tires and they were terrible. I moved up to the BFG AT KO's. That tire maybe a little too aggressive from what your looking at. If thats to aggressive for you I'd suggest the Bridgestone Duller A/T w/ Revo. Its a great tire and somewhat aggressive. It runs just a little cheaper than the BFG's also, in my area anyway. I'd go with 285/70/17 if I were you but thats just my opinion.

I'd suggest the BFG AT KO, Nitto Terra Grappler, Toyo AT or Bridgestone Dueler AT or AT Revo. The BFG AT KO is probably the best off road. I currently have over 55,000 on mine with plently of tread left.

I don't really think the RT/S was that bad, kinda middle of the road in my opinion, but the Goodyear that stands out for me is the AT/S or Wrangler Silent Armor. I too would upsize as I just did to a 285/70/17, but if not and if not the Goodyear, all the ones mentioned are a good choice from what I hear.

For what you want to do, I'd go with the Dueler Revo. It gets rave reviews and is a pretty light tire as well (won't kill your MPG). I had a set on my Sequoia and loved them.
