2000 f-150 rear brakes grabbing

I have a 2000 f-150 regular cab, especially when its been sitting overnight or when its wet ,the rear brakes grab,, it will do this for the first 15 minutes or so of driving then eventually go away,, is there any soultion to this problem ? any different type of brake pads i should be using instead of the oem's? any help would be appreciated,, thanks Bigbarr

we had a 99 e 150 van at work did the same thing any moisture outside and they were very touchy. i just tapped a few times before i got into traffic and then it was ok.my 97 150 seems ok when it comes to that. if you have rear drums you might want to back off the shoes just a little.

Thanks for the info Keith, but this just doesnt seem right, they souldnt grab this badly, i read somewhere else trying to search this out that brake pads or shoes made of a different material will help, but im not sure what they mean or what type of material they were talking about,, Im sure this truck has rear drums and i might try backing off on them as you suggest, Bigbarr

It's normal with drum brakes (although it shouldn't be). The friction material on the shoes holds moisture making the brakes grabby the first couple of times. There's a TSB out on the problem, but the fix is to replace the shoes with some of a different material. You can get them at the dealership, or call around to some local parts stores and see what you can find.

Thanks Joe,, I will do some searching on the TSB and see if i can find out exactly what type of shoes to look for
