biggest tire on stock wheel

I have a 2001 f150 4x4 with that has 265/70R/17 tires on my stock wheels. What's the biggest tire I can fit on them there stock wheels? I'm willing to do some trimming and tweaking if i have to.

The reason I ask is I have to replace the tires and i figure if I'm going to why not try to fit some bigger tires in there.

Also if I do a 3" body lift what's the biggest tire I can fit on those same stock wheels? Thanks.

You can fit a 315/70-17 (35x12.50) by using the OEM wheels. You will have some rubbing on the frame at full steering lock. A body lift won't help this, but it will allow you to mount the tires on a wider wheel which will cure the rubbing on the frame (and not cause rubbing somewhere else).

Thanks wandell. How much is some rubbing? enough to be worried about?

And if i do the body lift what's the biggest tires I can fit in there if i buy new wheels?

And what would be a good wheel size to consider buying?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks again.

Like I said, most members report the 315/70-17's (on stock wheels) rub the frame at full steering lock which is nothing to be concerned about. If you go with a body lift, I'd mount the same size tire on a 17x10 inch wheel.

What does the wider rim do to decrease the rubbing. Is it the fact you can have a larger backspace? I also would like to put 35's on my stock 17's but feared too much rubbing. If I can do 35's on 17x10's I will do it.

No, both wheels have the same backspacing (4.5 inches), but the 10 inch wide wheel will pull the tire more toward the outside since it is 2.5 inches wider. That is enough to cure the minor rubbing on the frame.
