37's or 40's on 17x10's w/8" lift?
I have 35's they wore out because of a bad balance. I'd like to do at least 37's since there is a hight war in socal. i'd also like to go 13.5's wide but damn it doubles the price. Irok's come in 39.5" and i'm seriously considering it but i'm scared to go taller and not wider. Anhoot, i'm not shure about rubbing on turns. I think there is only a few inches gap when locked side to side.

I agree with wandell 110%. Maybe or maybe not for the same reasons.
I personally would never go any bigger than maybe a 36, 37 absolute tops. These trucks just aren't buil to run 40" tires. You maybe fine with 40's as long as it never leaves the asphalt. However, you will be replacing ball joints, shafts, bearings and everything else on the front far more often than it would be worth IMO.

I understand it's not a 7-lug deisel but how is it less strain pulling a few hundred pounds of added tire weight then a few thousand pound trailer (car, boat, etc)?
As far as clearance, I think going wider is more of a problem then taller. Irok has a 35x14.5x17 which would have been an easy choice if the deisels werent taller. I'll have to measure if I can fit another 2" width, it looks like 1.5" to me.

The concern of increased tire weight has nothing to do with the total weight of the vehicle.
As you make turns, go over bumps, etc... the ball joints, tierods ends, etc are all under a certain amount of stress. With the stock setup, you have a certain wear expectation (measured in time or miles). When you go adding a significant amount of weight (like 40s) then you would expect those "connection points" to wear out much faster.
