Question Is it OK to go up a couple sizes?

I want to keep my truck simple, no major mods. My 245/70/17 inch Generals are about shot and I have access to a set of new take off 265/70/17s.
What does that do to my truck? Throw off computer, speedometer, etc?
Do the negatives outweigh the positives? Thanks [new at this]

What year and model truck do you have, and what size wheels are they (width)?

Yeah, guess I should mention....
2004 new style F150 4X4, 163 inch wheelbase-8200 Gvw, & lug wheels, 17 inch wheels and I seem to think I was told they are 7.5 inches wide.

You'll have no trouble fitting those 265s on there then, especially since it is a 4x4. I have an 04 FX4, and it came stock with 275s on 18 inch rims. The 265s will fit on there easily with lots of room to spare. The speedometer will more than likely need correcting, but a power prgrammer will fix that for you. If you don't want to spend the money on one of those, your local ford dealer can fix the speedometer for about nothing.

OK great on clearance, but I am more concerned on what it does to the truck in relation to speedo, computer, etc. no problems?

No problems at all other than the speedo. A ford dealer can fix that for you. Lots of people put a huge lift on and like 37 inch tall tires with no trouble other than the speedo being off. That little difference in tire size won't affect the speedo much, but just take it to a ford dealer and they can fix it in about 15 minutes for you. The computer and everything else will be fine. The computer won't even notice the tires on there, other than the speedo being off.

OK Great. I don't mind the speedo being off a little.
Thanks for the help.

You're welcome. You can always have someone drive next to you and have them tell you how fast you are really going. Then that is the difference you will need to remember when reading your speedo.

3.5% error for speedo/odo

You may notice a performance loss, but most don't. The transmission may shift into overdrive a little early.

Daleford...I had the same thing (255 70 17 Generals) and I upgraded to 295 70 17 Nittos. They fill up the wells nicely with no rubbing issues. I have not had the speedo recalibrated yet. This is the size tire that should come on these 4x4s.
