Maximum size tire for non-lifted/leveled 2005 FX4 Extended cab

I have a 2005 F150 FX4 Extended cab and want to put some more aggressive tires and nicer rims on it. I originally intended to lift it, but after looking and the price and being told by the wife I had to choose between the lift and two new 4 wheelers, I opted for the four wheelers. So now I'm wondering what is the biggest tire/rim combo I can get under it without rubbing. I am wanting to get these:

I figure I'll have to go 33" but I'm wondering if this is gonna rub. Also, is that a reasonable price for the package and would you order offline like that?

Thanks for everyone's help in advance.

Why dont you get a leveling kit? They are fairly cheap, and you can do it yourself if youve got some basic mechanical skills.

But if you cant get that, the biggest you can fit are 33" tires. In that link, the only package with 33" tires comes on 15" wheels. You need at least a 17" rim on your truck to fit over the brakes. The only package with 17" rims has 35" tires, so you might want to see if you can find another package, or get the leveling kit.

I'd go with a 2.5 inch Autospring leveling kit and some 18x9 inch wheels (5 or 5 1/2 inch backspacing) and some 325/60-18 (33x13.00) tires.

Johngs, when you say "basic mechanical skills", just how basic are we talking. I can change my oil, spark-plugs, brake pads, etc., but if it's something I need specialized tools for, I ain't got it. So with the leveling kit, could I fit the 35's??? If so, that would be the route I would take if I could get the leveling kit on.

Wandell, I noticed you just about live on this website. lol I'm not even sure about the backspacing thing. Do I need to get something to change the backspacing? I was hoping I would at most have to do the leveling kit and put on the wheels. My wife'll get suspicious if I start goin' over $2000.

Thanks for you guy's help.

Backspacing is simply the measurement from the mounting surface of the wheel to it's rear edge. The stock wheels have 5 1/2 inches of backspacing. The less backspacing on a wheel, the more it "sticks out".

My 4x2 with the leveling kit clears 285/70/r17's on 17x10 weld wheels with no rubbing whatsoever.

There are a few threads in the '04-05 forum that outline the steps involved and some of them have pictures.

tigga, that's just about the look I'm goin' for, maybe a little bigger/wider if I can get it under there. I'll check out the links johngs is talking about.

Any wider then Tiggas and it wouldn't look good.

ArmyGuy,

If you keep the factory wheels or similiar backspacing/offset and add a 2 or 2.5" autosping you can run 35's w/o an problems.

I recently switched to 17" factory FX4 rims with 315/70/17 BFG All Terrains. I found the wheels here in the classifieds for 100.00 and the tires were new H2 take-offs that I bought from the local Discount tire for 400.00/installed.

My wife is one of the most frugal people I know and she even agreed it was a good deal.

I've got some pics in the gallery showing the fit and the best part is they are still tucked, maintain the factory look and no rub.

Wandell,
You suggest 18X9. What is width of the factory 18" wheels? I have an '04 FX4 that'll need some new tires soon, but I can't break the bank on new wheels.
Thanks!
Dan

I just wanted to thank everyone for their help. I've decided to go with the 2.5" leveling kit and a 3" body lift. I should have no problem getting 35"s under it after that. I am looking at just some Mickey Thompson II's and maybe the new Nitto Mud Grappler.

I would've responded sooner, but I've been in the desert. I'm on R&R and had to check.

So will 305/65R17 fit on my '04 FX4 Supercrew with the stock rims and leveling kit? I was going to go with pro comp xtreme AT's? Any advice on tires? the guys at 4wheelparts said it would but i just don't completely trust sales guys.
