265/75/R16 tires "not recommended" for 2000 F-150 4x4?

Well, I now have about 56,000 miles on my stock BF Goodrich Long Trail TA tires and I'm ready for something beefier. I have been very pleased with the BF Goodrich tire and want to try the All Terrain T/A KO in a LT265/75/R16. The folks at the local Cosco have them for $163 each but stated that Ford doesn't recommend this size for my F-150 (5.4 liter SuperCab XLT 4x4 with towing package, proper radiator, and 3.73 gears)? I have seen this size on other trucks and even with the 4.6L, but not the exact same tire. I would also like to keep my stock 16" aluminum rims for now even though I think they are somewhat narrow for the tires I want.

Can anyone shed some light on why Ford doesn't recommend using this size tire? Will I have weird things happening with a tire this size?

I understand my speedometer will be off by about 9% and that my towing capacity may be somewhat diminished, but I have not been underpowered for anything I would regularly tow.

Thanks everyone!

Sounds like your tire guy misread something. Ford has sold thousands of trucks like yours with 265/70-17's which are the same height and width as 265/75-16's. You'll be fine with that size, although personally, I'd go with 285/75-16 AT KO's.

no problem with your tire size, I was going to buy lt 265 70 17 Bfg Rug, Trial T/A at costco here in Calgary, but they refused to sell them to me, org tire size on my 04 f-150 4x4 was 235 70 17 Hancooks, up size was to big, for anti lock brakes, blah blah blah, sales guy knew nothing accept how to enter a stock number and apply it to make/model of truck, some program warned him up sizing was to un safe, the fx4 has 265 70 18 tires, Bought the BFG at Kal Tire, and threw the hancooks in the garbage after side wall seperation problems.

my 2002 f-150 came with 265 70 17, same truck as yours.

I hve an 02 sport 4x4 abd I am running 285/70 16's on stock rims, they didn't hurt my power at all and I can't notice much of a differnce in speedo. I also have true duels with no mufflers so that helps with the power considering I only have the 4.6

Before I went with street tires, I had 265/75R16 tires on my 2WD Expy. No problems at all.

You have a 4WD truck that is even higher than my truck. You should be finre.

It's not a problem with the tire, it's a problem with Cosco. They won't install a tire on ANY vehicle if it doesn't match exactly the specs posted on the vehicle spec sticker on the doorjamb. They will also check the tire application guide for that vehicle/model year and ONLY use a tire size specified by the manufacture. If the 265/75/16 isn't listed, they'll feed you a line about liability and blah, blah, blah.

If you want those tires and need to have them installed, you'll probably have to find another place to get them.

Tire Size

I had the Bridgestone Dueler A/T 285/75R16 on my truck and they felt very solid at all speeds. I had to remove them because I had problems parallel parking. My husband has almost 45K miles on his set. While they do not look new, they do not look like they have 45K on them either. No problems on his truck, ’00 F150 4.6L 4X4.

I've had the 285/75/16 BFG AT's on my truck on stock rims since the day I bought it new from the dealer. I'm looking at replacing them now at 80,000 KM (that 50K miles for you good ole boys). Never had a problem. Recalibrated the speedo with the Superchips programmer.

My local Costco just installed 265/75/16 Bridgestone Dueller A/T Revos on my 2wd 1999 F-150. The salesman was very helpful in showing me different tire sizes and what I could fit.

Costco will sell you any tire.
They may not install any tire.
If they won't install it, they will drop the price by $10 per tire as installation etc..is included in the price.

Take the $10 per tire savings and apply it towards an install elsewhere.

Bluebacks......not quite sure what you are asking but bigger is always better. Look around and you will find what fits and what doesn't. A little lift here, a little trimming there, you can get whatever you want....even with stock rims.

Are 16 in and 17 in wheels/tires interchangeble?

I'm looking for new wheels/tires for my 2000 F-150. I can find a bunch of 17 in wheels, but I have 16s. I was worried about the speed/power difference.

You saying these two are exactly the same height, therefore interchangeable?
