03 L wheels on a 98 F1.....Couple Q's.

I am about to get a set of 03 L wheels for my 98. I have searched, and can only find bits and pieces of info.....

What is the deal with the wheel stud sizes.....I am asssuming I have 12mm and the 03 L has 14mm. Does this not matter because they are hubcentrically (is that a word?) mounted???

Do I need lugs from a 99 Lightning to mount them, or can I use 98 F1 lugs??

AND...whats the deal with the 'wheel stop' things???.....Can they not be used, or maybe the stock parts be modded to work??
What can happen?.....will something like hit the moving Lightning wheel spokes as I am turning or somthing???

Ok...I did ore research for a couple of hours and heres what Ill do...

Gonna get the 03L rims for my 98 STX, and go get the 99 Lightning lugs that are 12mm. Then Ill bend, grind, and get that bracket outta the way.....If I have to Ill get the stop kit

I WILL come back (in 3 weeks) and tell you if this works, since all the posts I looked though said nothing!.... :rocker:

Not sure if they are similar, but I put 2000 L wheels on my 97 Expy, just bolted them right on with my old, factory lug nuts with no issues.

Hmm...maybe ill just give it a shot...

Just bolted them right up. Torqued to 100 lb-ft. on the 'ol torque wrench.

i have an 01 with 17 in wheels and a 98 with 16s when we switched them we had to use the 98s lug nuts and the hubcaps wouldnt fit on because the lug nuts weren't quite long enough

I'm thinking the stops keep the wider wheel from pounding against the frame/suspension when the wheels are cut all the way to 1 side or another.

I also changed my bump stops, got some very minor tire scraping when the wheels was turned all the way. Since I use full steering lock to get into my small garage, it irritated me.

Bought some bump stops for a Lightning, no more scraping.

They were totally easy to install, basically just a bolt and nut that goes into a hole on the frame. Grind away the old bump stops and the new ones bolt right on.
