35's on 16 x 10 Rim

Looking to buy a set of 315/75R/16 for my 16x10 rims, I've heard this large of a tire can cause transmission damage if you have the wrong gears and i've also been told that they will cause my truck to vibrate extremely bad when driving on the highway. Any comments on the subject?

I have 17x10 Weld Racing rims with 35x12.5x17 Pro Comps. I have not heard of transmission damage roumors. I was even thinking of 18x12's but I don't want to do cutting and i'm not sure if mud flaps would be wide enough to keep her clean. I have very little steering wheel vibration at highways speeds. :bandito:

Larger, especially taller, tires will increase the wear and tear on your tranny. However, towing and hauling heavy loads will do this also. When you install a taller tire, you effectively raise your final drive ratio. 35's is pushing it. I have talked to several members with 35 inch tires on trucks with 5.4 engines and 3.55 gears. Some say the performance is ok, some say it sux, but no one is raving about how great it is. Now on the other hand, if your truck has 3.73 gears, you should be fine.
As for vibration, that is a result of tire design and type, not size. A set of 31 inch bias ply Super Swamper Boggers will ride and vibrate a thousand time worse than a set of 37 inch BFG AT KO's or Nitto Terra Grapplers steel belted radial all terrian tires.

How do I go about finding what gears I have? Thanks!

Should be a tag on a bolt on the rear end with the staped gear ratio. If it's not there, you can call any Ford dealer and give them your VIN and they can tell you.

So basically keep my tranny fluid changed and wallet out for gas and I should be ok? I should mention I drive an average of 6 miles a day, maybe a little more on the weekends. Thanks for the posts, if anyone else has some comments please feel free!

Just to let you know, I'm going with the BFG AT KO's, $841 out the door, thats the cheapest I found in the big city of Tulsa!
