speedometer

hey guys i have a 97' ford f-150 4x4 with stock gears right now i have 285/75r16(33's) bfgoodrich a/t's and was wondering about chaning the gears in the rear end to get the speedometer to read correct and i was also wondering if i didnt do that changing out how the gears that connect to the speedometer cable if any one has any information on either or both of these please let me know thanks

I am no expert but have a similar situation and have asked the dealer service dept about what needs to be done. They claim that the trucks computer handles that and that it would need to be zapped to correct for the larger tires. I hope this helps.

On the 99 and new trucks, the speedo is controlled by the computer. The 97's and 98's can still be correctly by changing the speedometer gear.
